The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon Preview: Non-spoiler thoughts for “La Dame de Fer”
By Shay McBryde
We have now reached beyond the halfway point of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon. Season 1 episode 4 “La Dame de Fer”, reveals Laurent being a child who is immensely wise beyond his years and already mastering the art of a rebellious teenager.
After overhearing some unfortunate information about his paternity between Isabelle and Daryl, the young messiah is on the run in Paris, which means it’s up to Daryl and Isabelle to track him down before the antagonists do it for them. To call the opening scene of episode 4 preposterous would be an understatement in all its absurdity.
Though, for me, it’s really hard to buy into this messiah charade. From that moment on, fans will get to witness the inner dreams of Daryl Dixon and you can’t help but notice the incongruity of the romance our hero stumbles upon.
And it nearly whisks him away until reality strikes again. What I really love about TWD: Daryl Dixon are the desires in the quiet moments Daryl has.
He knows what his happy ending is, and it weighs on his mind immeasurably. They are things he does not speak out loud and this series depicts the inner paradise of the lone wolf archer we’ve grown to love for over a decade.
There is a poetic essence at every turn that deepens this story in a way I was not anticipating.
The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon: Daryl and Isabelle negotiate with the owner of the Demimonde club.
“La Dame de Fer” is written by Shannon Goss, David Zabel, and Jason Richman and directed once again by Tim Southam. The story becomes a chase for all involved to get back on track to their journey to deliver Laurent to the Nest.
They hit some snags along the way due to demons from Isabelle’s past and she must use her crafty manipulative skills to protect the one she loves the most. With Laurent now on the run, he must go to the place he feels the safest.
Knowing he has been lied to since birth, he travels to the only truth he’s ever known. We get to see the old ruthless Daryl back in the habit.
If there is one person you want on your side to callously get answers, it’s Daryl. It’s a quick reminder of the lengths he will go to protect and save the younger generation and do what’s right.
Even in his most barbaric stage, he has a revelation that shows you the true heart behind the rugged and relentless exterior of the man he is.
This episode is full of drama, excitement and, of course, marvelous imagery just as every episode has been, like a fine wine that only gets better with age. Here are some images to prepare you for the excitement of “La Dame de Fer”.
