Have you ever been pranked into mistaking a Monday for a Sunday and unintentionally arriving to work extremely and embarrassingly late? Well, that doesn’t even compare to the scariest pranks we found from The Office.

For 9 seasons, The Office, which focused on the employees at the Scranton branch of the paper company Dunder Mifflin, audiences have witnessed the craziest scenarios imaginable. A majority of those scenarios were pranks amongst the employees but most often between Jim and Dwight.

Our picks for the 5 scariest pranks on The Office

We chose 5 of the scariest pranks from the show to talk about today! No, we are not talking about the stapler in the Jello prank or even when Jim pretended to be a vampire.

Although some of these are harmless jokes gone wrong, some are truly scary… Find out which pranks made our list!

5. Jim jump scares Dwight

Season 5, Episode 10

There was once a time when jump scare videos were everywhere. It would be a simple video of a car driving in a nice area, or perhaps views of a valley and then a person would randomly jump on screen as a monster and scream.

Admittedly, these terrified me but not Dwight who easily saw this coming. Especially since it was emailed to him from Jim.

What Dwight didn’t expect was that after he finishes watching the predictable video, he turns and gets scared by Jim wearing a scary mask. Those around him, usually Stanley and Phyllis, chuckle at the spectacle.

Harmless yes, but still scary.

4. Snowman revenge

Season 7, Episode 12

Imagine, you are going about your casual workday when suddenly you are attacked by actual snowballs. This happens repeatedly and when you try to fight back, you cause damage or mistakenly harm others.

Jim’s innocent action of throwing a snowball at Dwight to prove to him that even a dusting counts, leads to Dwight having a snowball revenge field day. But where this takes a turn for the terrifying is at the end of the day.

As Jim and Pam leave to head home, they find themselves confronting several life-size snowmen in the parking lot. Its night, silent, still snowing and not a person in sight…tell me that’s not horror movie material.

Horrified to the point of practically exhibiting PTSD from the events of the day, Jim starts attacking each one, hoping to catch Dwight. What Jim doesn’t know is that Dwight is watching the whole thing from the rooftop.

Scary…

3. Jim’s dead

Season 8, Episode 15

Being the perfectionist Dwight is, he has a fully prepared schedule for several of his coworkers who accompanied him to meet and impress Sabre’s special projects president. One of the coworkers, Jim, who we know loves pulling pranks on Dwight like it is his full-time job, comes up with one of the best and scariest ones yet.

As Dwight and Erin go around waking up their coworkers at the hotel, they stop by Jim’s room to find it in complete disarray. Fake blood on the sheets, static on the television screen, knocked over lamp, sheets tied and thrown over the balcony, even a suitcase full of money.

But what really makes this prank scary and epic at the same time is the discovery of two messages on the wall, “IT WAS DWIGHT” and “Luwanda at The Alcohol Club”, followed by Jim’s body falling out of the closet. What honestly makes this prank equally hilarious is Erin’s shocked and disgusted expression towards Dwight when they read the first message.

2. Pumpkin head Dwight

Season 9, Episode 5

What started as a harmless Halloween prank becomes a living nightmare for Dwight. He carves and hollows out a pumpkin for the Halloween season and successfully startles Erin.

Trouble is once his prank is over, he finds that he can’t get the pumpkin off his head. From there Dwight’s life is nothing but a downward spiral of depression.

If the pumpkin gets destroyed, it could kill him too. As he debates where he went wrong, he tries to accept his current fate of wearing the pumpkin over his head until, eventually, hopefully, it riots away enough for him to remove it.

But keep in mind, we don’t know how long Dwight had the pumpkin over his head. He had to somehow manage eating, sleeping, showering and getting dressed with this pumpkin over his head.

Not to mention things like driving and working. Talk about a prank backfiring.

1. The fire drill

Season 5, Episode 15

Ok, so this isn’t technically a prank as Dwight’s intentions were to teach his coworkers a very important lesson in fire safety and protocol. However, this was too good to not be included on our list for the sheer fact that everyone, aside from Dwight, thought they were going to die in a fire.

As soon as the coworkers realize that there is no way out of the office, they panic and utter chaos ensues. Windows are broken, vending machines are raided, the cameraman is knocked to the ground, cats fall from the ceiling…just utter chaos.

The worst part, however, is that this incident does cause Stanley to have a thankfully, non-fatal heart attack. How Dwight was able to keep his job after this incident remains to be seen as a true miracle.
