HBO has confirmed three of its biggest series won’t return until 2025, but there is one key show that will still return in 2024 as originally planned.

As expected, due to the WGA strike that occurred from May 2 to September 27, 2023, and the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike, HBO has been forced to shuffle around its schedule which has led to the delay of several shows including a pair of Emmy darlings.

On Nov. 2, HBO CEO and Chairman Casey Bloys outlined the network’s current 2024 schedule which is shaping up to be quite an impressive list; however, some major shows were notably absent from the list including The White Lotus, Euphoria, and The Last of Us. All three series have officially been pushed back to 2025 meaning we’re in for a long wait ahead for new episodes of three of the network’s biggest original series.

The delay of The White Lotus and Euphoria‘s third seasons is definitely the most disappointing as we likely would have seen both series premiere sometime in 2024 if not for the strikes. Instead, we’re going to be on for the longest break between seasons of the two shows but we have faith the third seasons will be more than worth the wait.

As for The Last of Us, we always knew there was a chance the show’s hiatus could be a long one due to the nature of the show. Series such as The Last of Us which feature a lot of effects, tend to take longer not only to film but also to be completed in post-production. The hope was that maybe HBO could turn a new season around in time for a late 2024 release but with filming slated to begin in early 2024, the show has officially been moved to 2025.

HBO shows confirmed for 2024 including House of the Dragon

While we know there are going to be a few anticipated series that won’t arrive until 2025, the good news is that HBO will still be bringing fans a lot of exciting new series in 2024! Although the exact release dates remain up in the air, the network has confirmed several iconic shows will be back next year including the most popular new show of 2022: House of the Dragon!

As one of the few shows that was able to continue to film during the two strikes, House of the Dragon is still on pace to return for Summer 2024. The show alone is sure to draw plenty of eyes to the channel and we imagine ratings will only continue to grow as new fans continue to discover the amazing series.

Of course, House of the Dragon is just one of a handful of new and returning series on the calendar for 2024. It’ll be joined by the following shows which have all been confirmed for 2024 for the HBO and Max platforms:

  • Curb Your Enthusiasm season 12 (January 2024)
  • Dune: Prophecy (Fall 2024)
  • The Franchise (Fall 2024)
  • Hacks season 3 (Spring 2024)
  • House of the Dragon season 2 (Summer 2024)
  • Industry season 3 (Summer 2024)
