A new month means that there are new shows to try out. So, if you’ve caught up on everything that came out in November, check out this list and see if anything premiering this month might end up becoming your new favorite show.

My Life with the Walter Boys – Netflix (December 7th)

Netflix has found a good deal of success in the YA romance drama with To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, and their Kissing Booth series of movies. Therefore, this new show looks like it will fit right in with those titles.

Based on the novel of the same name, the series is about 15-year-old Jackie, whose parents die, resulting in her having to move from New York City to Colorado to live with her new guardian on their farm. Also living on the farm are 10 boys, with at least two of them forming a love triangle with Jackie over the course of the series.

Culprits – Hulu (December 8th)

The setup to this show is pretty familiar at this point. A loving family man has the perfect family and the perfect life, but then his past comes back to haunt him.

It turns out that he was a master criminal earlier in his life, and now this old life has returned to threaten his new life, forcing him to come out of retirement for one last job. While that general set up has been appearing more and more recently, this show has an interesting Agatha Christie-style twist.

It introduces a masked killer who is hunting down the criminals one by one and killing them, adding a mystery element to the thriller. Just like Goosebumps, this show will be airing on both Hulu and Disney+.

Very Important People – Dropout TV (December 15th)

The streaming service that was born from College Humor has carved out an incredible niche for itself in the genre of improv comedy, with their newest show looking like it’s going to fall right in line. Very Important People has comedians getting dressed up in elaborate costumes and makeup.

The catch is that they have no idea what they look like until the very end. They then have to immediately go and take part in an improved long form interview as the character that they look like.

The trailer feels kind of like the comedic version of Netflix’s Sexy Beasts dating show from a few years ago, but this format looks like it might be able to glean a lot more from the impressive makeup jobs that the show features.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians – Disney+ (December 20th)

Rick Riordan, the author of the famous series of bestsellers, the Percy Jackson series, had made no secret about the fact that he really doesn’t like the movie adaptations of his books from 2010 to 2013. Fortunately for him, and hopefully for the fans, he is much more involved this time around in the adaptation of the first book.

The show, like the book, tells the story of a modern-day demigod; a half human, half god, who discovers that the gods from Greek mythology still exist, still have children with mortals, and those children all attend the same secret summer camp. With Riordan’s involvement, we can assume that this series will follow the plot of the book pretty closely.

We can even see that with the titles of the episodes, being the same as some of the chapter titles from the book.

Extended Family – NBC (December 23rd)

The television season this year has been incredibly disrupted as a result of the Writers Strike and the Actors Strike. As a result, this is one of the first new sitcoms of the network season to start airing.

Jon Cryer and Abigail Spencer play a recently divorced couple, who are figuring out how their family works with the new normal that consists of them not living together with Julia, Spencer’s character, falling in love with someone new. This is a special airing of the first episode.

The show will start airing in its normal time slot in the new year.
