Deborah questions whether she's found the man of her dreams, and a night at the club gets messy in season 1, episode 6 of Netflix's A Different World.

The episode opens with Deborah's intimate dream about Ellington. It seems the student assistant has had a lasting impact on the Hillman freshman—one that may put her current relationship at risk.

In other news, Amir is finally housed, having secured a single room in the boys' dorm after weeks of sleeping on the couch. Hazel and her man, Jalen, come by for a visit, and the trio seems to get along well—at least for now.

Meanwhile, Dwayne and Whitley sit for coffee and discuss Hillman's financial issues. But don't fear: Whitley has a big donor lined up who may be able to help.

Afterwards, the two catch up with Deborah, who has come around to the idea of being a "neurodivergent baddie."

At the same time, Rashida puts her hat in the ring for a new position as Professor Brooks' research assistant. However, getting the job may prove difficult when the freshman finds out the role is only open to upperclassmen. But when has a formality like that ever stopped Rashida?

The one that got away

Deborah's daydreams about Ellington prove distracting in class. Thankfully, her "cousin," Professor Voyer, is understanding. It's a quality she most likely gets from her mother, Kim Reese-Voyer, who makes time to attend her daughter's first lecture.

Meanwhile, Whitley catches up with her "big fish," none other than her ex-fiancé, Byron. (This should go well.)

Whitley wants Byron to work the Hill as a senator to secure funding for Hillman. Byron generously agrees to help but makes it clear that he has other motivations. He's never forgotten Whitley, even after marrying three times. From his perspective, those marriages were "doomed from the start" because of the one that got away.

Kinda sweet, right?

After all of that work, it's time to party. Alpha Delta Row is having a party for their "chapterversary," and everyone is in attendance. Even those who technically shouldn't be. We're looking at you, freshmen.

As Kim, Freddie, and Whitley gossip about Byron's advances, Deborah confides in Rashida and Hazel about her dreams about Ellington. Both advise her to decide what she truly wants and avoid the drama. Here's hoping Deborah listens.

Outside, Ron and Dwayne struggle to get past security due to the dress code. But they aren't the only ones having issues; Kojo confronts Rashida over her relationship with Aaron, and the two argue about boundaries.

Meanwhile, Ron and Dwayne finally make it into the club, only to discover that their minor children are in there, living it up. Suffice it to say, Deborah and Shaquille get a stern lecture from their parents over their irresponsibility.

"Please, baby please"

Following the chaotic night out at the club, everyone is either in their feelings, or making big moves.

Amir facetimes with Jalen, who seems to deeper feelings for the barber than he wants to admit.

Rashida takes the initiative by using her creativity and organizational skills to appeal to Professor Brooks for the research assistant job. Spoiler: she gets it.

Meanwhile, Whitley and Deborah have a mother-daughter sit down to discuss Deborah's love life. Whitley offers her daughter support and motherly love, and the two share a touching hug.

At the same time, Byron goes to visit Dwayne.

Uh oh.

The two have a tense exchange, with years of tension and competitive energy reigniting. The conversation ends with Byron mocking Dwayne for his last-minute confession to Whitley all those years ago. "Please, baby, please," Byron repeats while laughing in Dwayne's face. Doesn't look like those two will be shaking hands and having a drink anytime soon.

Love hurts

Back at Deborah's dorm, she finally confesses to Shaquille that she and Ellington kissed.

Shaquille is upset, rightfully so, and admits he knew something was off between the two. But Deborah gaslit him into believing that nothing was wrong. The gaslighting continues when Deborah argues that Shaquille doesn't listen to her. She feels that she wasn't ready for a relationship, but Shaquille pressured her into it. He wants to keep talking, but Deborah ends things and tells the athlete to get out of her room.

At the same time, Dwayne confronts Whitley about going to Byron for help. Dwayne says Byron has ulterior motives, but Whitley denies it. The two argue, and Dwayne tells Whitley that he doesn't need her help.

Cut to the next morning. Shaquille wakes up in bed, naked, dazed, and confused. And who should pop up next to him but RA Candace?

Touchdown!
