Stuck inside during a tornado, Hazel and Amir can't avoid their issues any longer, and Deborah and Shaquille talk about their original breakup in A Different World episode 8 on Netflix.
Spring break is here, and the Hillman crew is taking a staycation. Hazel is on the outs with Amir, who, following the talent showcase, confessed to sleeping with Jalen. Hazel thinks Amir is lying and just trying to break her and Jalen up. Meanwhile, Amir doesn't understand why Hazel is in denial about her relationship.
The boys are busy discussing their love lives when thunder strikes, sending them rushing to Gilbert Hall for comfort and safety. Hazel is unhappy about being stuck with Amir. But a lockdown becomes necessary when the power goes out.
A night of truth
When things get tense between the freshmen, Deborah suggests they split up and look for something productive to do. Rashida and Kojo go to The Pit to find food, Hazel and Amir head to the basement to try to restore power, and Deborah and Shaquille grab candles and drinks for everyone. But with each assigned task comes a hard conversation.
Deborah and Shaquille discuss the night of their original breakup. The previous spring, Deborah lost her virginity to Shaquille, but the special night was interrupted when the warehouse they were in caught fire. As a result, Ron punished Shaquille by taking away all of his devices and credit cards, leaving him with no way to contact Deborah. But Deborah took his silence as a sign that their special night meant nothing to them.
Meanwhile, Rashida and Kojo reconnect in a cozy fort. But the topic of conversation turns to relationship pressures, creating tension. Then, Kojo confesses: he's a virgin. Rashida, in shock, gets upset, wishing Kojo had been honest about his status when she first told him about hers. But Kojo admits that he thought Rashida might judge him if she knew about him being a virgin.
At the same time, Hazel and Amir argue over Amir's confession. Hazel accuses Amir of being jealous of her relationship with Jalen. But Amir goes low, saying Jalen preferred being with him rather than Hazel. Ouch.
A night of reconciliation
As things die down, and the tension clear, each couple makes efforts to reconnect.
Deborah and Shaquille, and Rashida and Kojo, reconnect physically, reaffirming their feelings for their respective partners.
Amir and Hazel apologize to each other. Amir acknowledges his mistake and how he betrayed Hazel's trust. Hazel admits that she knew deep down that what he was saying was the truth, but she didn't want to believe that both her boyfriend and her friend had betrayed her. Hazel confesses that she had a boyfriend back in Ohio. His name is Roger (also known as Bunny), and she hasn't officially broken up with him yet. Scandalous!
We then cut to the group having fun as the storm continues to rage outside.
Everything seems good until Deborah goes to Candace's room to look for sleeping pills. There, she finds Shaquille's hoodie from his secret night with Candace.
Just when you think the couple is moving forward, they take two steps back.
