After an intense episode, Crew Girl season 1 begins to wind down with an episode that does not take the foot off the gas.

We open the episode with a little montage of brief scenes dropping in on various characters. Teagan reveals to Juliet about her fling with Josh and cutting things off with him. Meanwhile, Josh goes to see another doctor seeking drugs to help him mitigate the risks in the short term. It’s only a temporary fix. We then cut to Cam and find that he’s losing hours training while needing to put in time at the shop. Next, we see Baloo and Britney struggling to get over their breakups, with Baloo in shock about Logan’s betrayal, not knowing the truth, while Ryder is passing time training with an Olympian.

As the crew finally come together, Coach Hayden informs Baloo, Ryder, Cam, and Teagan they've been invited to an invitational, which a scout is coming to see as they look to spot candidates for the junior rowing team, giving them a fast track to the Olympics. Afterwards, Baloo approaches Cam and asks for his advice on how to crush Logan at the race. Cam notes that he needs to not come in hot, as he’ll burn out, and encourages him not to let Logan get under his skin at the race.

Ryder tells his mom about getting the invite to the invitational as Richard calls to inform his sister that he convinced their dad to sell her department off to another airline. Ryder suggests there is one thing that grandad can’t ignore: making it to the Olympics. If Ryder wins at the invitational, he could punch his ticket to become the first Regis to make the Olympics. Ryder then goes to see Cam and asks him what it’ll take for him to throw the race so the scout is looking at him, not Cam. Cam turns down the offer and sends him away, but Ryder reminds him that everyone has a price as he leaves.

It seems Hayden and Ella’s relationship has begun heating up as he sneaks out after spending the night with her, a secret they nearly keep before Teagan bumps into him as he tries to sneak out. Speaking of secrets coming out, Cam is leaving for the invitational and overhears his dad on the phone with the bank. Cam tries to get information from his dad about how bad things are, but his dad keeps him in the dark and encourages him to get out there and show the scout what he’s made of.

As the invitational arrives, Teagan finally meets Madison formally, and she’s shocked to learn their parents have been dating for weeks. Cam arrives, and Teagan wishes him good luck while also picking up on the connection he and Madison share. Madison notes they go way back as Teagan asks her for advice on how she can fix things, and she encourages Teagan to give him time.

Baloo signs in, and shortly after, Logan arrives and confronts him about giving up as Baloo mentions that he doesn’t cheat to win. Logan seems confused, which we understand, knowing the truth about Josh's actions but Baloo is still in the dark.

Teagan tries to ice Coach Hayden out, but he offers up some help on her competition and gives her some advice on how she can win. In return, Hayden sets a few ground rules for dating her mom as he agrees. Speaking of Ella, Ella gets home and is shocked to find David in the house looking for something. He shows her a flash drive and tells her it’s going to fix everything.

Ryder bribes Cam to throw the race

Before the race, Cam finds Ryder meditating and approaches him about his earlier offer and whether the deal is still on the table. Cam asks for $48K to help his dad, and Ryder accepts. Elsewhere in the locker room, Josh throws back one of the pills the doctor gave him as he prepares for the race. Before the race, the scout comes up to Cam and says he was told he’s one to watch, making us wonder if Cam will go through with throwing the race.

Ryder takes an early lead as Baloo surges, pushing too hard as he lets Logan get to him. Josh quickly emerges to take the lead, but he begins losing speed, and Ryder and Cam pass him to take the top two spots. It’s neck and neck between the two before Cam emerges as the frontrunner. Cam begins to throw the race, which gives Ryder the chance to surge past him and win the race, and catches the scout’s attention as he wanted.

After the race, Teagan confronts Cam on what happened in the final sprint. He says he choked as she questions whether he threw the race and questions why he did this. He tells her that some things are more important than winning the race. He admits that the shop is going under and he needed the money to save it. She quickly pieces together that it was Ryder who paid him off as he blows past her.

Back at the house, Ella confronts David for his actions, and he apologizes for being gone so long. He says this flash drive has evidence against his partner, who is willing to pay him a lot of money for the USB. The money will set them both up so they can go back to LA, but she makes it clear she’s not going back to LA as they’ve built a life here. He refuses to turn himself in, as it’ll mean going to jail for 20 years. She brings him his bag and tells him to keep running and makes it clear he won’t see Teagan again until he makes things right, and he leaves.

Before her race, Teagan finds Madison and asks for a favor for Cam. She asks to be put on the same erg as Cam, and Madison agrees. As she begins training, Teagan messes with the machine before taking her place. The race then begins for the girls, and Teagan begins quickly dropping on the leaderboard. She comes in 12th and, after the race, calls for an official to check out the erg. The officials take a look at the erg and find that the erg was obstructed, which means the erg has to come out of the race. Their scores will be struck from the record, and a time will be set for Cam and Teagan to re-row in the future.

Cam presses her on her decision, and she makes it clear there are more important things than rowing, and he is more important than rowing. It looks like the pair might kiss before he tells her to stay out of his mess and leaves.

Hayden calls Ella and tells her about Teagan scratching and then tells her that Teagan is open to them dating with some minor restrictions. To his surprise, Ella tells him they need to put things on hold and assures him it has nothing to do with him; she just needs to be alone for a while. He agrees to give her space to take care of herself as their call ends.

Josh's biggest secrets finally come out as Teagan learns about his health problems

After the race, Baloo confronts Logan about cutting Josh’s oar. Logan tells him how he’s replayed that game over and over again as he couldn’t understand why he betrayed him and blocked him. Logan reminds him he wanted to leave first, so he waited to leave, and he wasn’t even alone in there as he heard someone coming in the window before he left: Josh.

Baloo sees Josh leaving and confronts him for lying and letting Logan take the fall. Teagan arrives as Baloo reveals he sabotaged the race. She gets in the car with him and presses him for answers, but he keeps dodging the question as he questions why everyone needs him to do something he can’t do, as nothing is ever enough. He begins speeding as he blacks out and crashes the car.

She wants to call for help, but he says they can’t call anyone. She begins to call for help as he grabs her phone and his chest pains intensify further. She realizes he’s sick, and he finally comes clean, telling her about his heart condition, which is getting worse. He says he can’t tell his parents, as they won’t love him if he’s defective, and he admits he doesn’t want to let his dad down. She presses him to come clean as he begs her to let him compete in one final regatta to let his parents see the best in him before he comes clean.

She then takes Josh’s car to Cam’s shop and asks for a favor.
