The Crew Girl season finale picks up right where the penultimate episode left off after Josh and Teagan showed up at Cam's dad's shop looking for help in fixing Josh's damaged car. Cam says he can fix it in a couple of days and presses Teagan for answers. She assures him she’s safe and that this favor is important,, as Josh makes it clear he won’t forget this and thanks Cam for helping.
We cut to the final practice before the Haverford Cup, which Easten is hosting. After practice, Baloo puts Josh on the spot and forces him to come clean about being the one to sabotage the oar. Rather than telling the truth, he says he sabotaged the race because he was scared of losing and let Logan take the fall. Ryder sees this as an opportunity and encourages the others to tell Coach they want him in stroke. The guys quickly split, leaving Cam as the final vote, but he decides to sit it out and refuses to vote.
Meanwhile, Juliet comes to see Teagan and ends up informing Ella that she's decided to emancipate herself from her parents, who never come through for her. Their conversation is cut short when Rich shows up at the door and seeks Ella's help with party planning as his event planner canceled at the last minute. With Juliet’s help, they squeeze him for a hefty fee, and she agrees to help Ella out with the event.
The principal comes to see Coach Hayden and informs him that the erg was tampered with at the invitational and whoever was behind it must be pulled from the boat, thus preventing either Teagan or Cam from competing.
David surprises Teagan and pulls her aside to talk. He says he was trying to fix things and tells her about the drive, which he can sell to set her and her mom up properly, but Teagan makes it clear that she doesn’t want the money. He mentions her mom being stubborn as well and realizes that her mom knew he was here and lied to her. Teagan confronts him as he makes it clear he’s the only one who has kept her dad away by not turning himself in.
Cam finally gets his shot in stroke
With the race fast approaching, a decision on stroke needs to be made, and Teagan pulls Cam aside and forces him to make a choice to break the tie. He surprises the group by throwing his support behind Josh. Josh's apology tour continues as he asks Ryder how he can make things right between them, as Ryder makes it clear that what he wants is stroke seat.
David surprises Ella, coming to see Teagan’s race, and asks for her help in sneaking out with the crowd. She gives him a uniform and tells him to do dishes.
As the team heads out to get ready for the race, Hayden calls Teagan and Cam into his office. Teagan comes clean about messing with the machine and stops Cam from telling Coach Hayden why she did what she did. He informs her she’s off the boat and she asks for the opportunity to be the one to tell the team the news.
Teagan informs the team that she violated a rule and has to withdraw from the race. She apologizes for letting them down and thanks them for everything. Cam comes forward and makes it clear that if she’s out, so is he. Josh follows his lead, as do Baloo, Crabby, Noah, Quaid, Perry, and finally Ryder. Coach Hayden allows her to race and makes it clear he’ll face his consequences for allowing her to race.
Ahead of the race, Josh pulls Cam aside and tells him to switch seats with him, as it’s Cam who should lead the team. He’ll follow him. The group gathers and prepares to take off for the race as the coach gives them a pep talk and rundown of their competition. Josh's grandad is shocked to see neither Ryder nor Josh in stroke, while the principal is shocked to see both Teagan and Cam in the boat.
While the team might have entered as underdogs, simply hoping to hit the podium with a third-place finish, they manage to surprise everyone by taking second place and earning silver.
After the medal ceremony, Baloo apologizes to Logan, who pulls him in for a kiss, making it clear he’s good with giving him a second chance. Hayden apologizes to Cam for putting it into his head that the crew wouldn’t row for townies like him and makes it clear he was wrong and he’s proud of him.
Josh finally comes clean to his family and reveals that this was his last race, as he has a serious heart condition. He wanted to carry on the family tradition, but he can’t row anymore. Josh’s granddad makes it clear that this will impact the family’s plans, as his dad surprises him by shutting grandad down and making it known that the proper response was that they’re going to get his son help and put his health first. Rich surprises Josh by asking if he can be treated and makes it clear he’ll be there for him through his recovery.
Elsewhere, Ella finds Hayden and congratulates him on the school’s first medal in ten years. She apologizes to him, and he reminds her he’ll be here when her life isn’t so complicated. Ella pulls Teagan aside, and Teagan confronts her about keeping the truth about her dad from her. David comes up and tells them he’s going to turn himself in; he knows Teagan is upset with her mom, but she was just cleaning up his mess. That’s when the FBI shows up to take him into custody.
Crew Girl season 1 ending explained
After the event, the principal finds Hayden and points out how both Teagan and Cam were in the boat. She asks if he wasn’t able to find out who was responsible for messing with the erg, and he points out how responsibility falls to him as he works to protect the pair. Not happy with his decision, she fires Hayden on the spot, making his future at Easton unclear.
Teagan bumps into Josh in the boathouse, and he admits things didn’t go as badly as he thought after he told his dad the truth. He jokes that they could be poor soon, as Teagan jokes back that he can hit her up for tips. Josh admits that she’s seen him at his worst, but she’s never seen him at his best, and he hopes that when she meets that guy, she’ll give him a second chance.
As Juliet helps load things in after the party, she encourages Ella to think of herself as well, and Ella tells Juliet she’s a good one. We thought the moment would end with Ella inviting Juliet to live with her and Teagan, but instead Juliet’s mom surprises her! It's clear season 2 will focus on the fallout and explore the mother-daughter relationship between the two, and we're eager to see how that plays out.
In the closing moment, Cam finds Teagan. He jokes that he never could have imagined any of this happening after she hit him with her bike. The pair then kiss before he leaves, hinting that the pair are going to give their relatuonship another try.
Coach Lana arrives to speak with Teagan and informs her that there is a group of girls who have shown interest in a rowing team, and that come spring, she can get back in a boat. Teagan is elated and thanks her, which is when Coach Lana tells her to thank the Garner Foundation. Enter Britney, who tells Teagan she can’t wait to be rowmates, as it looks like she works for her now. That's right, Britney played the long game and is looking to get back at Teagan by making her life difficult on the girls rowing crew.
After the ending of season 1, we certainly are hoping season 2 will be ordered! We need to know what is next for Teagan, Cam, and Josh, including how this new girls' rowing crew might impact their relationships. It could also lead to Josh's continued involvement in the rowing team, as Teagan moving to the girls' team could open up the cox spot for Josh to take, which would absolutely come with some new power dynamics. Then there is the question of what comes next for Coach Hayden after he was fired. We certainly hope to see him back for season 2, getting a second chance at the school and we'd also love to see where his relationship with Ella might go next!
