Crystal Lake is finally available to stream on Peacock, as of Thursday, Oct. 15, 2026.

In March 2025, Linda Csrdellini signed on to portray Pam Voorhees, the mother of Jason, and her fanbase was worried her performance and the series wouldn't live up to the hype. Well, now, we're about to find out!

After 46 years of Friday the 13th films with Jason as the lead, Peacock’s Crystal Lake tells the untold story of Pam and her grief. Twelve movies spanning 1980 to 2009 featured many versions of Pam, and now Linda Cardellini takes on the role. Erase everything you thought you knew about Pam and Jason’s sad story heading into the new series.

Cardellini shines in this Friday the 13th prequel as she opens up another side of the infamous mother through grief-stricken behavior, mysterious acts, emotional outbursts, and the loving way she cares for Jason. It’s time for Jason to move over and make room for his mom as we dig deeper into her mind and what she truly experienced following Jason’s disappearance.

Before she was known as the mother of Jason, she was a cook at Camp Crystal Lake. Some could argue that she was happy and normal until Jason’s supposed fatal drowning on the camp counselors' watch when he was only 11 years old. From the dozen movies, fans know that eight years later, in 1979, he becomes the slasher icon. We didn’t know his mother’s killer instincts had been active since 1971, when he drowned, and summer 1972, when everyone moved forward but her. The summers of 1971 and 1972 changed Pam forever, and that’s where our story begins.

Summer 1971

In the summer of 1971, Jason (Callum Vinson) and Pam are just a normal son and mother, as Jason scares her late at night. He's having one of his bad headaches, so his mom gives him some meds and tucks him in. He sadly asks if he has to go back to Camp Crystal Lake tomorrow after the kids stare and whisper at him while he's there. She reminds him that he's stronger than the other kids. Unfortunately, she has to work at the camp, and she needs him close by if he has one of his episodes.

Camp Crystal Lake wakes up to a new day of memories. All places come with issues as the owner tries to fix a spelling error and Pam finds a snake in the kitchen. She puts it in a pot and carries it out to the woods. On her way there, she waves at Jason, who is swimming in the lake as he tells her to go away. The other kids tease him for having his mommy nearby.

The counselor, Claudette (Danielle Kotch) blows the whistle and announces she's going to the boathouse to grab some stuff for the next activity. She promises to return in five minutes and instructs the kids not to go past the dock. As soon as she turns her back, kids start in on Jason about his head and needing his mommy.

Grace (Gwendolyn Sundstrom), a kind soul and Jason's only friend, comes over and checks on him. Things turn sour when the boys hit him in the head with a ball and Grace throws it in the no-swim zone. The boy scared Grace that she'll be kicked out of camp if she doesn't go get the ball.

While Grace and Jason are being harassed by the other kids, Claudette’s boyfriend, Barry (Phoenix Parnevik), another counselor, sneaks up on her in the boathouse. He convinces her the kids are right by the shore and that he'll be quick.

Another counselor comes over and has a fit about Claudette being away to grab some equipment and ushers the kids out of the lake. She tells the kids to come to the craft house while telling Grace to go inform Claudette and get her to come back. Grace catches Claudette and Barry in the middle of the act but runs away before informing her.

As everyone goes their separate ways, Jason decides he'll go get the ball for Grace. Pam releases the snake in the woods on the edge of camp as Ralph (Nick Cordileone) sets animal traps nearby when she hears the commotion from the lake. She instantly springs into a run when she hears Jason calling for her. From the woods to the lake, she runs all the way until she jumps off the edge of the dock after Mr. Christy (Brian J. Carter), the camp owner, does. Neither one of them gets to Jason in time.

9 months later

While the locals are laughing over a steamy book at the diner, Chief Levon (Will Catlett) gets a radio call from Dorf (Cameron Scoggins) about Pam causing chaos again at the camp. Every day, she stands at the end of the dock and looks out where Jason was last seen. Levon sends Dorf off so he can take care of Pam with gentleness and respect for her grief. She's not giving up hope that Jason is still there and not pulled down the lake by the current. He drives her home, where it feels even more empty without Jason.

He offers her a way to heal by coming to the Founder's Day Cookout and being surrounded by the community. She doesn't want to heal; she wants to find her son. After she sees him off, she steps into her home and back in time to a memory of her and Jason. She opened a package of camping/outdoor supplies they had ordered. This is the moment the machete enters their home. As he's looking for the matches, he collapses into one of his episodes. We see firsthand why Pam was so protective of Jason, even after he disappeared.

Chief Levon arrives home to find his sister, Brianna (Devin Kessler), sitting on his couch working on an article. He immediately gets onto her for blaming the record player, but she doesn't back down from getting onto him about parading around in that costume (his cop uniform). They joke about his new whittling hobby and how she came to check up on him to find his fridge empty. She filled the fridge with the necessary items: eggs, milk, and more for him.

His sister still gets onto him for moving from Newark to a small town where everyone knows everyone. Plus, she doesn't understand how he keeps being nice to Pam. He feels like he owes her the kindness due to how kind she was when he lost his late wife, Alma. But she calls him out for most likely having feelings for Pam since it's been two years since Alma. Then, he does the biggest big brother thing ever to deflect her; he shocks her by saying he understands why no one likes her at work. I love how he just turned that somber moment around; he was like, "No more deep personal talk, let's joke instead."

189th Crystal Lake Founder's Celebration

Pam parks at Bryden Park and looks at the community celebrating Founder's Day. She hesitates to step out of her Jeep, so Levon comes up and ushers her into the crowd. She gives her dessert of choice, Jason's favorite baked apples, to Rita (Joy Suprano) and Trudy (Bernadette Quigley), who set it in a place of honor. As Levon rambles on, Pam stares at the lake, wishing the kids would stop disturbing it. Ralph doesn't make it any better by spooking Pam out about how Crystal Lake keeps people and that Jason isn't coming home. Mr. Christy has to pull him away, and the counselors (Claudette and Barry) come over to tell Pam they want to honor Jason when they reopen the camp.

Rita comes up and tells Pam that she and Trudy got prime seats for the fireworks. With all the commotion — talking about Jason, people laughing, and firecrackers going off, kids hurting the baked apples — Pam has a panic attack and runs into the lake to get everyone out. Levon drags her out, but it only makes her scream at everyone for celebrating and re-opening the camp while Jason is missing. It's too overwhelming, and she tells everyone to leave her alone as she escapes the celebration.

Disaster strikes

She decompresses away from the crowd before heading home. Peace isn't at her house either as she finds two men on her property. They introduce themselves as Jersey State Police, Ed Shubani (Aaron Serotsky) and Benny Muntrick (Don DiPetta), so Pam agrees to let them come inside for a chat. We find out that Pam has lived in her house for about six years, and the photo booth photos on the wall were taken about a year ago.

The news that they may have found Jason's body unsettles her. She locks herself in the bathroom, assuming something isn't right about this situation. The small window won't open, leaving her trapped with two strange men knocking on the door. When she doesn't open it, Benny breaks the door down, already having removed the tranquilizer from the case, and grabs her. With him holding her in place with the needle inches from her neck, she stabs him in the leg with a pair of scissors and twists it. When Ed pulls her off, the scissors come out, leaving Pam to slice her way through him. She cuts Benny's neck, and he falls into the bathtub and bleeds out.

Ed slams Pam into the wall and goes to Benny's side as he fades away. She struggles to crawl out of the bathroom, gets to her feet, and punches Ed. As she screams she's not going back, he throws her into the closet door, leaving him time to grab the tranquilizer. As he rumbles on about Pam and Jason's location being leaked in the paper, she grabs the machete. She realizes they didn't really find Jason, as he confirms they will eventually, but she'll never see him again.

He threatens her about revealing hers and Jason's truth when she slices his face with the machete. She gets to her feet and sends the blade into his head, leaving it stuck there as he collapses. Blood seeps into the floor.

Episode prologue explained

In the aftermath, she digs out Ed's wallet and finds his Subsun Solutions business card and the newspaper clipping of Jason's disappearance. She calls Nora to tell her they found her. Then, she removes the blade from Ed's head, causing more blood to pour out in pools. She wraps a bag and duct tape around his bleeding head, and the blood eventually stops after filling up the bag. As that's happening, Levon knocks at the door, and she has to answer to get him to go away.

As Levon drives away, Ed wakes up and pushes himself off the floor. She screams and pushes him until he collapses onto her, spilling blood everywhere. Covered in blood, she gets on top of him and punches him until he's dead. In the bathroom, with Benny's body still in the tub, she digs Ed's tooth out of her hand. Looking in the mirror, she questions her actions before removing Benny's body and blood so she can rinse off.

To end things on her end, she drives their car to the woods. She parks and opens the trunk and drags the men's bodies to the cave opening. Before pushing them in, she puts some honey and food on their bodies. She and the bear come face-to-face before the bear accepts her offering. With fireworks lighting up the sky, she holds the ghost form of Jason's hand in hers and watches the bear destroy the men's bodies.
