Someone frames Assane Diop for a crime he didn't commit in season 4, episode 1 of Netflix's Lupin.
The episode starts with Lupin in prison. While he's working out, a couple of guards come over to tease him. They think he's up to something, but Lupin assures them he's done nothing wrong.
Later, he meets with Guedira. While catching up, Lupin surprises the detective by revealing that he'll be released from prison soon. Guedira is happy for him but asks Assane if he's serious about leaving Lupin behind. Assane says yes.
Meanwhile, Claire walks in on a much older Raoul working out. She asks why he's not at work, and he says he quit. He would have quit eventually since Assane plans to take him to Dakar after he's released from prison. Claire says they should have a party so she can tell him some important news.
The twist? Her and Ben are dating now.
Detectives Guedira and Belkacem are preparing to board a train when someone posing as Lupin launches a cyberattack. They say that they are planning to break out of prison to commit robberies across two different cities. First, they'll steal a painting from a museum in Avignon, then they'll steal a sapphire from a museum in Paris. It will all take place at 8 pm sharp.
While the announcement is being made, Lupin sits quietly in his cell reading a book. He's oblivious.
Raoul is disappointed and questions Ben about his involvement. But Lupin's former partner says he had no idea Lupin was planning something.

Lupin returns
To prepare for Lupin's comeback, guards swarm both museums the thief plans to hit. Detectives Guedira and Belkacem are also present.
Back at the prison, the guards place Assane under maximum security to prevent his escape. However, the former thief maintains his innocence. Why would he escape when he's days away from being released?
The guards are unconvinced, so they place Assane into an inescapable, soundproof cube. He is pleased, thinking the situation will prove his innocence. That is, until the lights shut off and he disappears from his cell. At the same time, someone pulls off both heists at the two museums listed in the cyberattack.
When the lights come back on, Detective Belkacem pursues a potential suspect dressed in Lupin's signature trench coat. While doing so, she almost falls to her death in the middle of the museum.
Back at the prison, a riot erupts. The guards are trying to control the situation when Assane mysteriously reappears in his cell. He is dazed and confused but maintains his innocence. Detective Guedira visits the prison to confront him, and Assane shares what he thinks really happened.
The thief most likely used transparent LED lights to make it seem like Assane left his cube. In actuality, he was there the whole time. To pull it off, they would have had to take over the prison's IT system. Someone started the riot to ensure the guards didn't open the cube, disrupting the illusion.
But Detective Guedira is unconvinced. So Assane gives more details. He notes that the thief can only be in one place at a time, so they most likely stole the painting from Avignon beforehand. The painting that the guards saw was fake. Assane knows this because the thief used his techniques.
Someone is going through a lot of trouble to pin their crimes on him.

Assane maintains his innocence
Afterwards, the guards search Assane's cell and find the painting. He maintains his innocence and says Pellegrini might be angry enough at him to do something like this. When he broke him out four years ago, he sent the criminal to Malaysia in a box to face justice for his crimes.
Assane has almost convinced Guedira, until the detective receives footage placing the former thief at the scene of the crime.
Meanwhile, Claire waits by Sofia's bedside in the hospital. She tells Detective Guedira she's sorry and insists Assane would never do something like this. But it doesn't mean much to Guedira.
At the prison, the guards discuss Assane's upcoming transfer. One of them puts his stuff away in his locker and closes the door. But he realizes he mistakenly put his car keys away, so he opens it again and sees a hole in the wall. All of his stuff, including his car keys, is gone.
Cut to Lupin behind the wheel, driving away. A mysterious drone follows behind him. The former thief escaped to confront Pellegrini, but his daughter appears instead. He demands to know the duo's endgame, but Pellegrini's daughter insists it wasn't them. In fact, she likes the fact that her dad is in prison and won't do anything to help him get out.
Afterwards, Lupin leaves, and the drone from earlier appears in front of him with earphones. Assane puts one in and hears a voice eerily similar to his own, urging him to escape before the police catch him.
It's now Lupin vs Lupin.
Lupin is available to stream on Netflix.
