Jackie’s life has been nothing short of a whirlwind of emotions, heartbreaks, and hard truths ever since she lost her parents. Fortunately, instead of losing herself in the chaos, she fought valiantly to stay true to herself. However, the same can’t be said about her love life.
Stuck between the broody golden-haired Cole and the soft-hearted Alex, Jackie has had her hands full juggling which Walter boy to choose. Interestingly, she finally manages to confront her true feelings and confess her love to Cole at the end of My Life with the Walter Boys season 3, episode 1.
Love is in the air
Jackie avoided confronting her feelings for Cole because she wanted to be in control of her life. Alex was a safe choice because he controlled her impulses, but with Cole, she felt challenged and free. Despite wanting to be with him, Jackie pushed back her feelings to keep the Walter house’s fragile peace after George’s stroke. However, he is the one who pushes Jackie to embrace the moment without regret.
So, finally, the lovebirds are together—unofficially. Yes, Cole and Jackie decide to be together, but they don't want to broadcast the situation to avoid making things complicated. So, with no one coming between them, Jackie and Cole start enjoying their new relationship in gym lockers and behind barns.
However, they both realize that their relationship is affecting other things in their lives. They are so infatuated with each other that they can’t focus on other things. This is exactly what Jackie was afraid might happen if she decided to be with Cole. His presence practically consumes her, and she loses focus on other things.
For instance, she struggles to get in shape during track practice and forgets to double-check with Paige’s mom about the community center. However, instead of blowing things out of proportion, Jackie decides to talk it out with Cole about how she’s struggling to focus with him on her mind all the time. Fortunately, a few tips from the star athlete himself and some personal incentives put Jackie right on track.
Alex loses his best friend
On the other side of the break-up, we have Alex, whose struggles with his personal life don’t seem to end. Although he and Jackie had a heart-to-heart talk at the start of the episode, he can’t help but feel left out. On the other hand, while he lost the girl, he made headway in his rodeo career with perks being offered by Hartford.
He gets a super dope jacket and VIP tickets to Blood and Brains: The Adventure—a real-life zombie apocalypse escape room. He shares the tickets with Kiley, who ends up inviting Dylan to the trip as well. That’s when it hits Alex that his whole life has been turned upside down. A friend he thought he would always have ends up putting him in the backseat, quite literally.
In his defense, Alex assumed that Dylan might not be into the nerdy stuff he and Kiley were into. However, in an odd turn of events, Dylan ends up having such a good time at the games that it brings him and Kiley closer rather than drawing a wedge between them. The happy couple becomes happier at the end of the day, with a jealous Alex left standing on the porch.
Cole finds a new hobby
Cole is trying to get his life back on track by focusing on work, his coaching, and school. However, he can’t help but feel he’s missing something. When Tony offered Cole up to fix Mac’s car, Cole rose up to the challenge but became distracted because of Jackie.
In the end, he’s able to fix the car, but that puts him at odds with Mac, who feels that Cole has made unnecessary changes to his beloved car. Cole sticks by his decision and offers to show Mac what he can do with the car. As expected, Cole impresses Mac with his driving skills, but more than that, he genuinely enjoyed the rush, the thrill, and the adrenaline pumping through him when he was behind the wheel.
Mac praises Cole’s driving skills and offers him an opportunity to race if he ever felt like he belonged behind the wheel instead of fixing them. Of course, it’s not something he has thought about, especially with what’s going on in his life, but it seems that Cole might be inclined to try. This could be something that can threaten his family’s peace and even Jackie’s.
As the episode comes to a close, we think it's all going well, with Jackie winning her race and Cole fixing the car. However, it all ends on a weird note when Katherine accidentally finds Cole and Jackie kissing in his truck. It’s hard to tell what her reaction meant, but that’s something that will definitely affect the Walter household in the coming days.
