It’s a year of change in Silver Falls, with many finding their true calling while others deal with the pain of rejection. Jackie and Cole have finally decided to give their relationship a fair chance, free of familial and societal pressures. However, their initiative doesn’t last long when Katherine catches them making out in the barn.

This revelation kicks Katherine’s maternal instincts into overdrive, and she and George call a family meeting to set some ground rules. On the surface, the gathering appears to be aimed at ‘educating’ the teens to be careful, but it was clearly directed at Jackie and Cole. She understood that their relationship made Katherine uncomfortable because of Alex.

Later, Jackie and Katherine have a one-on-one conversation, and Jackie reassures her foster mother that she has nothing to worry about. Katherine expresses concern for Alex’s mental well-being because she feels it might be hurting him to see Jackie and Cole together. Jackie feels guilty and confesses that while it may seem that she’s hopping from one Walter to another, that’s not the case anymore.

Cole follows his heart

Even though Cole agrees not to race, he can’t help but be attracted to the rush of the speed. Mac continues his recruitment efforts and keeps pushing Cole to give drag racing a chance. He agrees to visit the tracks with Jackie and tries a round for the sake of keeping Mac off his back.

When Jackie sees Cole speed past her, her heart sinks. She feels anxious and scared for Cole and later even warns him against racing. Of course, Cole understands where she’s coming from, especially after her family’s death, so he agrees and turns down Mac. However, he couldn’t hide his disappointment because this is as close as he can get to feeling the rush of being in the field.

Jackie hits a roadblock in her community center

Jackie may have worked it out with Cole and Alex, but she’s still struggling to secure a good place for her teen community space. The option she does end up with turns out to be a hard nut to crack. She sets her heart on an abandoned corner store in the middle of the town. It used to be a cool place back when the owner and his wife ran it, but it has been closed for years.

Jackie and Grace later decide to talk to the store’s owner, thinking it would be a piece of cake, but the man rudely refuses and shuts the door in their face. Disheartened, she shares her worries with Cole, who tells her that he used to go to the store as a kid and loved eating the candy sticks. However, when the owner’s wife fell ill, the store was presumably closed.

Cole’s info helped Jackie understand exactly why the owner was reluctant to give his store to anyone. She went to talk to the owner once again, but this time she knew exactly how to convince him. Jackie made the owner realize that she knew exactly how he felt and why he didn’t want to share his place with anyone. It was the same with Jackie when she didn’t want to give up her mother’s designer clothes.

She felt she’d lose a part of her mother if she let her things go, but it was the opposite. She explains to the owner that by sharing the things of their loved ones, they are eventually letting their memory live on, which also brings joy to others. Fortunately for Jackie, she is able to get through to the owner and secure his permission to use the store as a community space.

Danny gets rejected

Apart from Jackie and Cole, other Walter boys are also trying to make their own in the world, including Danny. He had applied to Juilliard with high hopes, but he got rejected. He feels down and disappointed but avoids telling Erin because he didn’t want her to think that he was a loser.

On the other hand, Nathan suffers a mild seizure while working with Skylar. The latter learns that Nathan has stopped taking his medication because he didn’t want to be the kid with the disease. However, his words leave things bad between the two, and Skylar ends up snitching Nathan’s condition to his mother. The two later have a talk, and Nathan agrees to get back on his medication.

Alex tries to fit in

Alex may not show it, but he feels displaced at the moment. He broke up with Jackie, but he couldn’t find a permanent place with anyone, including his best friend. Therefore, when Kiley calls him to fix her fan, he feels relieved and happy and ends up inviting her to the rodeo barbeque.

The two try to fit in with the cowboys, but Wylder and other riders keep treating Alex as an outsider. However, an opportunity later presents itself, which Alex reluctantly avails himself of by literally burning his mouth with a hot sauce challenge. His guts eventually earn him everyone’s respect and a place in the gang.

On the other side of things, after Grace’s advice, Jackie encourages Cole to accept Mac’s offer to race because that’s something that makes him incredibly happy. The two start to make out, and things become heated. However, before they could go any further, Jackie’s Uncle Richard arrives with a familiar face—Jackie's childhood friend, Eliot.
