Jackie Howard is breaking free from her past self, and that’s not sitting well with people who have known her all her life. After her falling out with Richard, Jackie avoids his calls and continues to blame anyone who thinks her being a teenager is a danger to her future.
On the other hand, Cole Walter can’t help but feel the pressure of being with Jackie. He knew she was an overachiever and he couldn’t stand next to her academically, but that didn’t matter to him until now. Every now and then, both Richard and Elliot don’t leave a chance to remind Cole how much he is holding Jackie back.
Jackie is on a slippery slope
After Jackie’s meltdown at the banquet, she seems to be wholeheartedly focused on her community space rather than anything else. Seeing that she’s ignoring him, Richard asks Tara, now his official girlfriend, to talk to Jackie about what’s going on.
Unfortunately, that move backfires completely, as Tara ends up doing more harm than good. She starts off by mentioning her C in sociology, to which Jackie replies that she already has a makeup scheduled later that way. However, when Tara mentions Jackie’s recent behavior and how her dating life can affect it, it sets her off completely.
Jackie defends herself, saying that people have been nagging her about always being a perfectionist and to let loose, and when she does, everyone makes it feel like the end of the world. She lashes out at Tara and tells her not to interfere in her private life just because she’s dating her uncle.
Jackie storms out of Tara’s office and finds Cole. She tells him she wants to blow off some steam and is willing to cut class to do so. Cole tries to protest and reminds Jackie about her test later, but she shuts him down, saying they’ll make it back in time. Obviously, the romantic getaway made her lose track of time, and she ends up missing her makeup test.
Alex Walter can’t catch a break
Alex Walter has probably been the most unfortunate character in the show. He lost the most this season, and now he stands to lose the only thing he’s passionate about. Although he makes up with Kiley and trains with Wylder, he still can’t be as good as him.
Despite their differences, Wylder tries to help Alex out but to no avail. He even offers him some pain meds and suggests he take them before the ride to calm him down, just like he does. He also invites him for drinks, but Alex refuses once again because of school.
He feels immense pressure about his inability to master his bronc-riding skills and discusses his future prospects with Blake. However, she points out that it's actually Alex who isn’t trying to fit in. She thinks it doesn’t help Alex’s chances to fit in with the group when he keeps refusing every opportunity for a get-together.
This throws Alex off, and he defends himself, saying that he doesn’t need to be out on school nights or drink every day just to prove that he’s cool or worthy enough to be a part of the Hartford crew. Even when he shows her the pain meds, Blake gives Wylder the benefit of the doubt. Their conversation ends with Alex admitting that it’s too much pressure for him at the moment and he doesn’t want to continue doing something that has made him so unhappy.
Dylan and Kiley take the next step in their relationship
On a brighter note, there are other couples who seem to be doing better than Jackie and Cole. Dylan and Kiley decide to take an important step in their relationship – the parent meeting. Dylan’s dad invites Kiley to dinner, and according to him, his father is overly excited to meet Kiley.
Naturally, the dinner goes great, and Dylan’s dad seems genuinely impressed with Kiley’s personality and ambitions. He asks Kiley about her parents and grandmother and insists that she invite them to their house next. However, home is a pain point for Kiley because of her grandmother’s drinking problem.
She’s unable to show Dylan that side of her life and keeps him away for that exact reason. Although she agrees that she’ll ask her grandmother about inviting Dylan to meet her, she clearly doesn’t want that meeting to happen.
Right off the bat, Dylan notices something off about Kiley whenever he mentions coming to her house. What adds more fuel to the fire is Dylan hearing Kiley and Alex planning a gaming night at her house. He later asks Cole whether there was ever anything between Alex and Kiley, but Cole reassures him that they seem close because they are childhood friends with similar interests.
Changes are anew at the Walter household
My Life with the Walter Boys season 3, episode 7, is an episode of immense change for the Walter family, including Jackie. First off, Will learns that his wife has received a job offer in Atlanta, and she wants them to move to the bigger city.
Will feels guilty about leaving his father again, but when they talk about it with George and Katherine, they encourage them to take this step. George tells Will not to worry because they can’t stay tied to Silver Falls forever just because something might happen to him in the future. The Walters give their eldest son and daughter-in-law their blessings for a new chapter in their lives.
Meanwhile, things seem to be looking up for Lee and Isaac because of Hannah. She’s finally holding down a job and showing up, but she hits a bump on the road eventually. When she learns she’s unable to secure an apartment, she bails on a plan with her boys out of shame.
She later tries to make up, but the boys seem reluctant to trust her. Katherine feels for Hannah, but she tries to make her understand that things can’t change overnight. Right now, she needs to hold down the job and keep trying to be there for the boys if she wants things to go her way.
Cole breaks up with Jackie
Jackie decides to organize a car wash at Tony’s to raise cash for renovating the community center. Things go smoothly at first, but it quickly goes downhill when Elliot shows up. Although he insists he’s there to help, he was actually there to make Cole feel guilty.
Elliot straight up blames Cole for Jackie spiraling out of control. He reminds Cole that he’s unable to challenge her intellectually and that she’s wasting away opportunities for trivial things like the community center and her relationship.
As the final nail in the coffin, Elliot offers to donate a handsome amount to Jackie’s cause, which upsets Cole even more. He and Jackie end up arguing, and he storms out. However, Jackie feels bad for making Cole feel like a third wheel, so she arranges a special night at the community center for him.
Jackie tries to show Cole how important he is to her, but in a surprising turn of events, he shuts her down coldly. He tells Jackie that she’s too much for him and that everything she does is too much for him to handle. He accuses her of being boring and that he’s tired of dating her. He breaks up with her, leaving Jackie crying and heartbroken.
