Neagley episode 3 begins with a flashback to when Lawrence Cole had just started Echo Canyon Farm. He’s at some market selling vegetables and handing out pamphlets of his “enlightenment” farm, but no one pays him any attention. That’s when a familiar face calls out to Lawrence—it's Woodrow, and he wants to talk to him.
Cole is suspicious of Woodrow’s sudden interest in a man like him, and he clearly doesn’t hold him in high esteem when he talks about Cole’s failures. Lawrence Cole started his career as an associate professor of English, then tried his hand at folk singing, but failed. He moved on to an office equipment and leasing business in Santa Fe, but that didn’t take off either.
Lawrence isn’t impressed that Woodrow mocks his entrepreneurial failures but does call him a risk-taker, a quality that he both admires and needs. Woodrow offers to give Cole substantial capital for his farm because the piece of land he bought a few years ago will make both men very rich.
Neagley gets in trouble with the police
After giving Charlie’s daughter his belongings in episode 2, Neagley and Hudson head out, but in the distance there’s Davos propped up at a building with orders to kill her. Luckily again, Neagley spots him once more, and this time she takes the shot.
Davos is injured, and he tries to make a run for it with Neagley and Hudson hot on his trail. The two even have a shootout in broad daylight, but he manages to escape. Neagley knows that Davos is injured; if she doesn’t get to him in time, he’ll either die or escape, meaning her only link to Echo Canyon will be gone.
However, when the cops arrive, they aren’t the least bit interested in tracking down Davos. Hudson’s superiors want him to take Neagley down at the station to take her statement. They think she fired first, and because Hudson hasn't seen Davos with the sniper, they are inclined to believe Neagley is somehow involved.
As they drive down to the station, Neagley is angry at Hudson for not having her back, but he argues that if he defies orders, he’ll be demoted and his dream of proving himself will be gone too. Unfortunately, Neagley isn’t convinced, and at the next stop, she escapes from the car and goes back to her home for some ammo.
She calls Renee to look for doctors who have been suspended in the past few years and also have prior drug or alcohol abuse charges. She thinks that the only doctors available to Davos will be the shady ones, and that’s how they’re going to find him before he goes off the grid for good.
As Renee talks on the phone with Neagley, cops arrive at her workplace too, asking York about her whereabouts. However, like a good boss, he doesn’t give her away and instead thinks the cops were hiding something. Renee sends her a list of eight doctors, and as Neagley thinks about ways to shorten the names, Hudson arrives.
The two argue again about Neagley being on the run, but the latter insists that they focus on Davos and suggests they go ask Hudson’s cousin about the shady doctors. Although he’s reluctant, Hudson accompanies Neagley to Mickey’s.
Mickey is mischievous and pokes fun at Hudson for asking for his help. Neagley places the doctor’s list on the table and gestures for him to point to the right one. He says he’ll only help when Hudson calls someone and tells them the truth. It’s obvious Hudson doesn’t want to, but Neagley pressures him to because they are running out of time.
Hudson angrily takes the phone and calls his grandmother to tell her that he was the one who broke the garage window and not Mickey. It turns out that he was only pulling his cousin’s leg, and he immediately tells Neagley about the doctor. As they’re about to leave, Mickey calls out Hudson for not visiting his father, and it’s a disgrace to the family.
Keno gains valuable information on Echo Canyon
At the Echo Canyon Farm, Keno is presented with an odd choice. Lawrence places a gun, a knife, and some bleach in front of Keno, asking him to choose his method of death because that’s what awaits him if he doesn’t stop using. Lawrence is using scare tactics to instill fear of death in a potentially recovering addict to help him become clean.
After his awkward meeting with Lawrence, Keno is taken to his accommodations, where he’s searched. Judith takes his phone and warns him about the strict no-drug policy. He’ll have to earn his place at the farm, and she explains the hierarchy: acolytes, neolytes, and probationers.
Keno is a probationer, so he’ll need to be extra careful with what he does if he wants to eat and have a roof over his head. When Judith leaves, Keno pulls another phone hidden in the lining of his bag and curses Neagley for making him do this.
In an intercut scene, we see a man strapped to a chair in what looks like Woodrow’s secret ‘experimentation’ facility. He’s trying to perfect a formulation that will take effect in about 30 minutes, but it has been a failure so far. Woodrow threatens Lawrence and the doctor that if they don’t get it right, the board will pull the funding.
He also receives a phone call that Lawrence tried to have Neagley shot in broad daylight, and that has caught the police’s attention. He’s furious and calls Lawrence out for his incompetence and tells him he’ll take care of Neagley first. After he marches out of what looks like a shed in a faraway part of the farm, Woodrow gets another phone call, presumably from his boss, who isn’t happy about the Neagley situation and tells him he’ll personally send his own people to take care of her.
Keno watches Woodrow from afar as he has this conversation, cleaning the pig pen with a girl named Mandy. He asks about the shack, to which she replies that it's where people chosen to be a part of the ‘project’ are supposed to be prepped to be taken to the sister farm. As they talk, two men come and start acting rude toward Mandy. Keno stands up for the girl, and despite earning a second strike on his probation, he saves the girl from the insults.
The police work against Neagley
After getting the doctor’s name from Mickey, Neagley and Hudson track down Davos. He’s getting prepped for surgery at a hideout, but Neagley has other ideas to extract information from him. After heavily sedating him with the ‘truth serum,' Neagley points out that Davos was not just in the army, but his platoon was one of the toughest of their time.
She knew that his entire group was taken out by terrorists, and he was one of the three survivors. Davos starts to get emotional as he hears how he has been reduced to killing people in the name of finding a better path for Lawrence. He admits that Lawrence was the one who ordered the killing of both Neagley and Tommy, and he’s with him because he’s going to change the world.
By the end of it, Davos agrees to be a witness for Tommy’s murder. However, before they could celebrate their victory, cops arrive at the scene. Hudson asks Neagley to pretend to be arrested so he doesn’t get in trouble for her escape. She agrees, and the duo goes out to inform the cops about the witness. The cops are surprised that Hudson tracked down Neagley so fast, but as they enter the hideout, Neagley and Hudson hear gunshots.
Hudson goes to check out the commotion and sees a dead Davos on the ground. The cop named Murphy informed him that the guy reached for his gun, and he had to take him out. Hudson argues that he was half-sedated, but the rest of the cavalry agrees, and he couldn’t do anything.
Later at the police station, Neagley is let go on the basis of her celebrated military career and no prior charges. However, she’s not happy about Davos's situation, and Hudson agrees. It turns out that the cop who shot Davos was Murphy, Deputy Chief Plemel’s godson, so it wouldn’t be wrong to assume that some of the police are in Lawrence’s pocket, covering up his crimes.
Neagley is angered, but Hudson convinces her he has her back now, and whoever comes after her will have to face him. Neagley agrees to do the same, but the trouble is, they’re back to square one with no witnesses or evidence of Tommy’s murder.
On the other side, Keno calls Renee to check in and updates her on what he found at the farm. He insists on coming back, but Renee tells him to keep his calm and find out more by infiltrating the ominous shed in the middle of the farm. Keno plans to break in at night, and he gets the perfect opportunity when everyone is busy dancing at Lawrence’s live performance.
Keno seizes a chance to break away from the crowd and finds a way into the shed. He keeps Renee on the phone and tells her everything he spots. At first, it looks like an old shed, but right in front of his eyes, an elevator platform rises from beneath the ground. Keno hides immediately, but the naked man who emerges from the elevator spots him.
Fortunately for Keno, the man is totally high and has no idea what’s going on. He talks nonsense about feeling great and ends up hammering his genitals to prove the point that he felt nothing. Keno panics, but he has to hide quickly because Judith emerges from the elevator a few minutes later to grab the man. They take him to Dr. Greene, and as Keno waits for the coast to get clear, he discovers that he was actually hiding where the farm stored a big batch of rye flour.
