Frances Neagley has a lot on her plate, from taking down Echo Canyon to confronting her own father. However, she’s stuck on all fronts with no evidence against Woodrow and his corporation and no cooperation from her father. In episode 6, Neagley tracks down Hudson’s colleague and forces him to reveal what he knew about her father.
In episode 7, Neagley’s first course of action is to get the truth out of her father. She tells him she found out that the man he stabbed was a guy named Elliot Percy. He was new to the city with no relatives or friends to ask after him if he went missing. She mentions there were no prior records in his file, so why did her father stab him?
Mr. Neagley talks about saying he was a predator and that they had evidence against him. They found photographs of him with kids in his apartment. Percy was an evil man who hurt kids; that’s why he was taken down. However, Frances argues that if they had enough evidence, they could have convicted him, but Mr. Neagley says he tried to run.
Neagley is not convinced, and she cross-questions her father, asking how he knew that Percy was abusing kids or what was in his apartment. She keeps on going, saying he killed someone in front of his daughter and then shouted in her face that she would never be touched again. She knew Percy never touched her, but then why would he go to such lengths? As they argue, the weight of the conversation causes her father to have a heart attack—guilt builds up on Neagley's face, and she knows she made her father suffer.
Hudson asks his father for help
Hudson Riley has to do the toughest thing in his life for the sake of the case, and that’s talking to his father. He thinks his father might have a hand in the Hamilton incident, so he goes to jail to see him. As always, his father acts as if everything is normal, but Hudson doesn’t want to bond. He just wants information, and he’ll get it at any cost.
Seeing his son’s determination, he tells Hudson that he was indeed hired to do a job in Hamilton, but he never knew the guys because they used fake names. Hudson threatens his father to bring down a lawsuit on him for transporting drugs that resulted in three deaths if he doesn’t reveal who his clients were.
When his dad complains that he visited after all this time just to put him in more trouble, Hudson changes his tone and tries to reason with him. All he wants is the account number, and his father agrees, but for that, he’ll have to go to ‘her.’ They don’t mention who they are talking about, but it seems Hudson has known this person for a long time, and they aren’t in touch anymore.
Hudson reasons with his father that she will not listen to him, but his father says she will when he gives her the password. However, his father says he’ll give him the password on the condition that Hudson helps the man he knows in jail by making evidence disappear in his bookmaking case. Hudson’s worst nightmare was coming true: his family taking advantage of his police job to hide their crimes.
Hudson calls Neagley to tell her about the deal, but after hearing of the man’s conviction, she thinks human lives are worth more. Hudson feels embarrassed because he’ll be doing exactly what everyone has been accusing him of—being a water rat. However, Neagley makes him understand that a gambling charge isn’t worth more than taking down a pharmaceutical company whose products can kill hundreds.
Hudson agrees and tells Neagley the password, ‘LeBron’s no Jordan,’ and asks her to go in his place to the person of interest since he’ll have to take care of the evidence. Neagley is reluctant at first, but then she agrees since they’re running out of time.
She drives to the house and says the password. A very timid-looking woman opens the door, and judging by the state of her house, Neagley concludes that the woman hasn’t been out of her house for a while. Soon enough, the woman admits to herself that she learned in her mid-teens that she liked distance, and by the time she was in her 30s, staying inside had become her lifestyle.
She and Hudson were childhood friends, and he was her first love. She is impressed with Neagley because if Hudson is working with his father because of her, then he must trust her. The woman gives Neagley the account number, and in exchange, she offers to take out her trash.
However, Neagley is furious that Hudson might have sent her to the woman on purpose to show her the bleak reality of what she might turn into if she lets her haphephobia dictate her life. She doesn’t appreciate being pushed around like that and leaves Hudson a very angry voicemail.
Somewhere in the CPD, Hudson charms his way into the evidence room and takes what he needs to help his father’s friend, Skootsi. Unfortunately, as he comes out of the room, Murphy spots him and starts following him. Hudson drives to a faraway junkyard and burns the piece of evidence.
Shortly after, Murphy arrives to blackmail Hudson and threatens to expose him as the ‘rat’ they all thought he was. A fight breaks out between the two of them, and Hudson ends up killing Murphy in self-defense. He’s shocked for a moment but has no time to lose. He locks Murphy’s body in a box, takes away his dash cam, and covers the car.
Hudson later comes running to the York office to inform Neagley of what happened. Since Murphy was the chief deputy's godson, there’s nothing stopping him from going to jail. However, Neagley assures him that he was a dirty cop and that he needs to go back to the station and act like he never left so he can have a solid alibi. Hudson doesn’t know how to handle it, but he goes to the station and learns that the chief is looking for his godson, meaning the group would have to act soon if he were to avoid murder charges.
Keno pays the price of betrayal
At the underground lab, Keno has been caught and is being actively questioned by Lawrence and his goons. When they can’t get information out of him the traditional way, they start beating and torturing him. However, Keno insists he lost his way and was simply curious, but they obviously don’t believe him.
Later when he’s exhausted and put in a cell, Mandy arrives to comfort him. She tries to apologize and says she was under the impression that they were only going to ask questions. Mandy’s frustrated she couldn’t understand earlier what was happening, but now she’s adamant about getting Keno out.
She mentions that everyone will be at the pavilion so they’ll have an opening to get out. She’ll get the saw from the barn, and they can run through the words. However, they’ll need a ride to be miles away from the place, and since she doesn’t have anyone to call, Keno can give her the number of someone he knows so she can call them to come.
Keno is happy that Mandy wants to break him out, and when she asks for the number, he gives her a very unpleasant ‘go to hell’ because he can smell a con a mile away. He calls her out for literally being in bed with Lawrence and is disappointed to know that there isn’t a person left in her. Upon Keno’s accusation, Mandy changes her attitude, saying he shouldn’t have betrayed Lawrence, and spits in his face.
Negley and Renee take care of a problem
Back in Chicago, Renee is worried about Keno because his phone abruptly cut off. However, Neagley assures her that Keno is tough, and when they lose contact with people during missions, it’s best to provide help on their end rather than fretting over it.
The women go to the bank that handled Boone Riley’s payment during the Hamilton job. Neagley poses as Boone Riley’s accountant, and Renee as a French-Canadian who claims to have given Boone payment, but he never received the funds. Neagley threatens the banker, saying bad things will happen to him if word gets out that he ripped off his clients.
She’s successful in manipulating the banker to reveal the details of who paid Boone Riley. It turns out Rawlings Corp, a company out of Scandinavia, made the payment, and Neagley immediately realizes Woodrow’s boss also had a Swedish accent, so they are on track.
As Renee and Neagley walk out of the bank, they notice a car following them. They immediately run to the nearby alley where the Swedish killers corner them. Surprisingly, though, Renee proves to be a useful partner in a fight, as the two women easily take care of the contract killers and get them off their tails once and for all.
Neagley and the gang are finally able to unveil the boss man behind the whole operation, and it's Arvid Rawlings, a very powerful and wealthy businessman with political ties. As they are looking at his photo, the scene intercuts to Rawlings sitting in Woodrow’s office as he arrives.
Woodrow is surprised to see Rawlings in the States, but the latter reassures him that he’s there to celebrate his success. They propose a toast to their successful drug experiment, but Woodrow mentions that there’s a problem with Cole. His actions will lead to a rebellion on the farm soon enough, and that will destroy their base of operations.
He also informs Rawlings of Judith’s fate and suggests removing Cole entirely from the equation. He wants new and sober management that they can control, and as they’re talking, Cole emerges from the shadows. It takes a moment to register, but Woodrow realizes Cole has played him.
Rawlings agrees that it's time for new leadership and shoots Woodrow in the head. His men take the body away, and Rawlings discusses next steps with Cole. He informs him that in 24 hours, his team will come to the farm to extract the Tranqlara research, and in exchange, he will offer him 15 million in crypto, and he wants his cooperation for the next drug they are developing.
At the York office, Neagley and Renee discover that Rawlings has a long list of defective products and lawsuits that he pushed under the rug. Meanwhile, Hudson calls to inform them that he has less than a day before they discover Murphy’s body and his DNA is all over the place of the accident.
Just then, Neagley notices that the tracker she put on Pierce’s car shows it in the middle of a lake, meaning he has been permanently taken care of. That’s when it hits the team that Rawlings is commencing operation cleanup, as he did in Hamilton, which means all evidence pointing to him will soon be gone. That’s when Neagley suggests that it's time to grab their weapons and barge in through the front door.
