Demigods, rejoice! Disney+ just gave us our first look yet at Percy Jackson & the Olympians season 3, and the wait until November is about to feel a lot longer now that we've seen this.
Percy tries to decipher a dream about the Great Prophecy, noting in the trailer, “Something bad is coming." The weight of the Great Prophecy from the Oracle of Delphi intensifies and is threatening to crush the Camp Half-Blood kids like Atlas under the world if he had an off day. Will Percy be able to save the day? Is Medusa a misunderstood character? The answer to both questions is yes.
“The stakes are higher than ever before as Percy is faced with the sudden disappearance of Annabeth and the impending Great Prophecy provided by the Oracle of Delphi, dictating the fate of Olympus. As foretold by the Oracle of Delphi, one demigod child of the 'Big Three' is fated to raise Olympus to new heights or bring it crashing into ruin, with their own life hanging in the balance," reads the official synopsis for the season.
The trailer, dropped as part of Disney's D23 lineup, is a serious step up from the 30-second teaser that premiered at San Diego Comic-Con last month. This one runs nearly two minutes, and it wastes zero time getting into the core of the season: finding Annabeth and stopping the Titans before it's too late.
Seasons 1 and 2 were all about Percy figuring out who he was. Now, season 3 will be about who he can't imagine losing. Adapting Rick Riordan's third book, The Titan's Curse, this season sends Percy, Grover, and the Camp Half-Blood crew on their most emotionally charged quest yet. So bring the Drachma to buy extra tissues.
The trailer leans hard into the Percy-and-Annabeth of it all, opening with a voiceover about how love has the power to both start wars and end them. Subtle, right? But all die-hard fans know just how important their love story is specifically in a world of gods and monsters. After his confession in season 2, it is clear as ambrosia just how important Annabeth Chase is to Percy. There is also the introduction of three new gods: Hercules, Hera, Demeter, Apollo, and Aphrodite.
Mark your calendars: Percy Jackson & the Olympians season 3 premieres Friday, November 20, on Disney+. That's a noticeably faster turnaround than the two-year gap fans endured between seasons 1 and 2. We'll take it. So get your offerings for the gods ready, as the next epic odyssey is about to start.
