Our thoughts about a live-action Gargoyles Disney Plus show
For those who have been waiting for more news about the projected live-action Gargoyles television show, we sadly don't have any for you. The latest we are aware of was released in October, revealing that this live-action Disney Plus adaptation will become a series by Gary Dauberman and James Wan.
Although other details about the show remain unknown, we've been wondering if a live-action adaptation route will be successful or not. Gargoyles was an interesting '90s cartoon that somehow embodied elements of Batman: The Animated Series, while telling a very original story.
If you were looking for a humorous and mind-numbing cartoon to kill time, this was not the show for you. For a show about mythical creatures coming to life in Manhattan, while also befriending a police detective, it was surprisingly deep, well-written, and not afraid to tackle tough subjects like gun control.
I don't know about you, but I watched Gargoyles recreationally, and yet I still remember the episode where the gargoyle Brooklyn accidentally shoots Elisa (NYPD detective friend) due to his negligence. I suppose we could rank this episode to the likes of the Captain Planet gang violence episode.
A live-action Gargoyles TV show can have both its pros and cons
Tough subjects are actually a good idea, especially for younger audiences. Now considering CGI has both improved and declined in recent years, we're staying hopeful that the special effects in this show will not disappoint.
The biggest question we have is if some of the original voice actors such as Keith David, Jonathan Frakes, Salli Richardson, and Jeff Bennett will return. Unfortunately, Ed Asner will not be able to reprise his role as Hudson as he passed in 2021.
Our second biggest question is whether the gargoyles themselves will be CGI or elaborate costumed actors or perhaps a little bit of both. We want to know if you will be watching the live-action Gargoyles show when it airs on Disney Plus.
Have you watched the cartoon and if so, what are your thoughts on a live-action adaptation? In the meantime, you can watch Gargoyles on Disney Plus!
There is no better time to get acquainted or reacquainted with this unforgettable show.
