True Detective: Night Country episode 5 drops early! Release date and time

We're almost to the finish line on True Detective: Night Country. The latest installment is the first season without original showrunner Nic Pizzolatto (he still serves as an executive producer), following a team of investigators living in the fictional town of Ennis, Alaska. Starring Jodie Foster as Detective Liz Danvers and Kali Reis as a State Trooper named Evangeline Navarro, new showrunner Issa López's story is dark, haunting, and unfortunately a little bit too slow. We only have two episodes left and I kind of feel like we're getting nowhere. Nevertheless, I'll continue watching to hope that changes!

There's a big shakeup to the True Detective: Night Country schedule this week, as the new episode drops two days early to not compete with Super Bowl LVIII which takes place on Sunday evening. Though kickoff for the Super Bowl begins at 6:30 p.m. ET, we're not expecting the big game to conclude until 10:00 p.m. or even 11:00 p.m. ET. It'll be a long one! Thanks to this, HBO is giving fans the fifth episode of True Detective: Night Country tonight. Here's what you need to know to watch.

True Detective: Night Country episode 5 releases Friday, Feb. 9

According to a press release from HBO, the fifth episode of True Detective: Night Country drops on their streaming service Max on Friday, Feb. 9 at 9:00 p.m. ET. If you've been watching the new season on the channel HBO, you'll have to wait until the usual Sunday night timeslot, unfortunately, as the linear airing of the episode will not be moved up.

If you subscribe to HBO already, however, you should be able to access Max, depending on your TV provider. Head to the link here and try to connect using your provider to check if you have access. Max is very simple to use, so if you're looking to watch the new episode of True Detective on Friday, we highly recommend it.

If you're waiting until Sunday, Feb. 11 to watch True Detective: Night Country on the channel HBO, you'll have multiple chances to do so. The linear premiere begins at 9:00 p.m. ET on HBO, then the new episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm season 12 will premiere. After that, the fifth episode of True Detective: Night Country will air again at 10:40 p.m. ET and again at 11:45 p.m. ET. So if you're waiting to watch the new episode after the Super Bowl, you'll certainly have the chance!

And of course, if you stream new episodes on Max, you can access episode 5 of True Detective: Night Country at any time starting at 9:00 p.m. ET tonight, Feb. 9.

It looks like Captain Ted Connelly is ready to put Annie's case to rest for good, but Danvers is not going to let that happen so easily... or will she? Tensions will no doubt rise between Danvers and Navarro once again, while Leah is getting closer to danger. Fingers crossed it's an eventful episode; it's the penultimate of the season!
