It's True Detective Sunday! This evening, we'll be getting a brand-new episode of the addicting thriller series, and I hope we get more answers than we did last week!
True Detective: Night Country premiered on HBO on Jan. 14, 2024, and it has viewers hooked with its gripping mystery. The latest installment follows a detective named Liz Danvers (Jodie Foster) living in the fictional town of Ennis, Alaska. When a group of scientists goes missing and then turns up dead and frozen, she must team up with an enemy and former co-worker Evangeline Navarro (Kali Reis) to figure out what happened.
This season has been pretty entertaining so far, and of course, what's keeping me watching each week is that we're (presumably) getting closer to finding out how the men at Tsalal Research Station were killed, as well as how the case connects to the murder of a local woman named Annie. But with each episode as Danvers and Navarro uncover more secrets, they're also left with so many new questions. Let's see what tonight's new episode brings!
True Detective: Night Country episode 4 release date and time
True Detective: Night Country episode 4 premieres this evening, Sunday, Feb. 4, 2024, at 9:00 p.m. ET. You can watch the episode either through the channel HBO or the network's streaming service Max. If you're planning on catching the 66th Annual Grammy Awards this evening, which airs on CBS and streams on Paramount+, you might be planning on watching the new episode of True Detective late. That's no worries if that's the case; you'll have the option to watch the episode at a later time on both HBO and Max.
If you stream new episodes of True Detective on Max, you can access episode 4 at any time starting at 9:00 p.m. ET this evening. As for the linear showings on HBO, episode 4 will air two more times tonight after its first airing. According to HBO's schedule, after its premiere at 9:00 p.m. ET, it'll also play at 10:41 p.m. ET and 12:20 a.m. ET. Typically, there would be more encore episodes in one night, but the fact that a different HBO is returning tonight explains why there are only three total showings of True Detective: Night Country.
Curb Your Enthusiasm season 12 premieres tonight right after the new episode of True Detective: Night Country, meaning Sunday nights will now be shared between the two shows on HBO. They couldn't get any more different, but that's what'll make the back-to-back episodes so fun. I'll definitely be tuning in to see Larry David return to HBO for his final bow after the new episode of True Detective.

What to expect from True Detective: Night Country episode 4
We don't have spoilers for the new episode of True Detective, of course, but we do have a synopsis and teaser to speculate on! Check them out:
"When Julia's mental health struggles resurface, Navarro brings her to a local facility, promising that this time will be better. Later, Danvers and Navarro confirm the location of Annie's murder – and Danvers levies a harsh punishment on Leah following her act of protest."- Episode 4 synopsis
The protesters will seemingly take center stage in episode 4, who are fighting against the mines because of the negative impact on the environment and overall community. As you'll recall, Annie was a big part of the protests, and we know that Danvers' daughter Leah has become involved as well. It's a dangerous spot for Leah to be, even if she's fighting for the right side. Based on the preview, it doesn't look like the team of investigators is any closer to finding Clark, which is frustrating.
We're more than halfway through the season and I feel like like it's started slowing down when it should be ramping up. There are six episodes total in True Detective: Night Country, and if we don't get more answers soon, I'm sure some viewers will lose interest. I don't need things spoon-fed to me, but I feel like the investigators are getting nowhere, and with a short episode count, that's a little worrisome.
Here's to hoping tonight's episode is a big one! Keep watching True Detective: Night Country every Sunday night on HBO and Max.
