It’s been an action-packed Reacher season 4! We’ve seen our hero, Reacher (Alan Ritchison), seemingly doing battle for eight hours since he got pulled into someone else’s mess.
In the penultimate episode of season 4, things came to a head as we learned what was really on the drive, and the ladies put their final plan in motion. Congressman Sampson (Marc Blucas) stopped it, seemingly at the cost of his life. But can Reacher finish it off? That’s what the season 4 finale, “Cut,” is all about.
Sampson dies in the Reacher season 4 finale
The goal for Reacher and the team was to stop Lila (Angnez Mo) and Amisha (Anggun) before they could detonate the poison. But Reacher was too late, forcing Congressman Sampson to throw himself at the suicide bomber. He knocked the bomber into the water just before the bomb went off. But early in the finale, we get confirmation that it cost him his life. It also leaves Reacher at the scene of another crime, a wanted man forced to flee.
Worse yet, they don’t know where the ladies might be. So, Reacher, Green (Sydelle Noel) and Jacob (Christopher Rodriguez Marquette) are going on the run, again. They are looking for a place to regroup when it hits them that they could go back to Plum’s (Kevin Weismann) apartment, a place no one will be seeking them. When heading back that way, it occurs to Reacher that the ladies might be thinking the same thing.
That sets the team to make a move on the restaurant where the ladies had been hiding earlier in the season. Turns out, they are there with what’s left of the operation, making plans to try and deploy the weapon before buyers make a bid. Reacher, Green, and Jacob have no choice but to try and go in and stop them. There is no time to call for authorities, and they’ve spent their good will anyway.
Split focus
So, Reacher proposes that he go after the ladies, helping create chaos. That will enable Green and Jacob to put a focus on going for the chemicals and preventing an attack. Reacher makes his way up to the top level and begins his assault. He quickly moves past the guards that remain, setting up a showdown with Lila, Amisha, and their knives. Reacher uses all his muscles and strength but in the process gets cut to pieces.
Reacher eventually manages to push Amisha out a window. She falls and appears to have died in the process. That further enrages Lila, who makes a play to get the syringe version of the weapon to use on Reacher. But he’s able to turn the tables and force the needle back into Lila. He hits the plunger, and she quickly passes, as did all the subjects of their test. The threat appears to be over.
Meanwhile, Green and Jacob are able to fight their way through the lab team. But when one of the team escapes with plans on releasing the toxin in a nightclub, they have to fight their way through the crowd. They get to the man just in time and are able to stop him and stop the release of the chemical, saving hundreds in the process.
Reacher makes his way out of the building only to discover that Foster (Dean Armstrong) is waiting. Foster wants to take Reacher out, but it turns out Amisha isn’t quite so dead. She takes Foster out and turns her sights on Reacher. Just as she’s about to punch his ticket, she gets shot. Jacob and Green arrived just in time to save Reacher. And, showing restraint, Jacob decides not to kill Amisha but rather to put her in custody.
Reacher season 4 concludes with a happy ending
Later, Reacher wakes up in the hospital, recovering from his massive injuries. He is surprised to see Green and even more surprised he’s not in handcuffs. Turns out Elspeth Sampson (Kathleen Robertson) used her pull to make sure no one got in trouble. Reacher also still has the drive, which he presents to Plum to publish his story. Elspeth is pleased her husband is vindicated and the truth is out.
Green is on her way to a better job on the force, cleared of any wrongdoing. Same for Jacob, who is learning to heal and move on after his loss. And even Elspeth is considering a run for office to uphold her husband’s platform. Meanwhile, Reacher has a new set of clothes, a new cheesesteak, and sets out on a new adventure.
That brings this season to an end. There is never a bad season of Reacher, but this one felt a little thinner than some. I also missed some of the recurring characters who usually pop up.
Still, there were some epic action sequences, and the series delivered a satisfying finale. I’m happy to keep taking these trips with Reacher as long as Alan Ritchison and Prime Video want to make them.
