Eddie and Susie are back with a real bang! Even though it looks like their operation couldn't be going any smoother, with stronger partners and an expanding reach throughout Europe, The Gentlemen season 2 premiere found Eddie agreeing to a deal with the Mafia. Bobby's latest question to the Bannik resulted in distrust with Eddie. Should we be side-eyeing him, too?
The Gentlemen season 2 episode 1 starts with Eddie walking with Stanley Johnston (Giancarlo Esposito) in a cathedral and having an existential conversation about history and the monarchy. Stanley asks Eddie what he knows about a sheepskin parchment in the cathedral, which comes from his ancestors. He believes Eddie is the remedy to their problems. It's a power he craves.
Eddie wakes from a bad dream in which a crown has been place on his head. While sitting on the throne as king, Eddie lights up as if to explode, waking him with a fright. Eddie meets with Moretti in Milan to talk about the bill on the decriminalization of marijuana. He wants to go against Bobby Glass in killing the bill and letting it go through in order to corner the market and make money.
Hawthorne isn't happy about his night out with Jack
Moretti agrees to consider the deal Eddie presents, which hinges on Eddie getting the bill passed. Before he leaves, Moretti asks Eddie for a favor concerning his friends in London without providing immediate details. Meanwhile, Susie talks Jack through his night on the town with Hawthorne. Jack sets boundaries with Hawthorne before heading to a party after dinner.
As Jack finds women to talk with and entertain, Hawthorne tries to pull his focus with drinks and drugs to no avail. The next day, Freddy calls home, but he's not forthright with Charly. He warns her that he's different now, but it's unclear what he means by that statement. Eddie works up a plan with Geoff to get Mr. Takashi from one location to another.
Eddie, Susie, and Jack meet with Bobby to talk about the situation with Hawthorne, who wasn't pleased with Jack's performance on their "date." Hawthorne's pushing back and upping the financials. Bobby isn't on board with negotiating with Hawthorne, causing some tension between him and Eddie. Susie meets with Hawthorne and lays down the gauntlet as her father demanded.
Geoff calls in Eddie's help with removing Mr. Takashi from his current situation. He wouldn't stop torturing the man until he killed him. They get the address for the second target, meaning the bodies are piling up for Eddie and this favor for Moretti. Later, Susie plays pool with Joe and catches up about their history. But he brings her an offer for a new professional opportunity.
She turns him down on the professional front, but as for the personal, she takes him back home for a different kind of fun. After burying the bodies, Eddie returns home to find Bella waiting for him. She tells him that Moretti asked her to take Cico's place following his death. They agree to move forward in their working relationship with no bad blood, not that they had any in the first place.
Eddie makes two kills and reveals the new plan to Susie
When Susie asks Eddie to meet with Hawthorne to continue going over his issues and he says he can't, she sends Gabrielle off to follow him. Sabrina and Carly visit Freddy and see firsthand how much he's changed right away. Gabrielle shares with Susie that she's followed Eddie, Geoff, and Mr. Takashi to a cottage. Susie's beginning to doubt Eddie based on how he's been acting.
Freddy explains that he has been spiritually reborn and admits that he hasn't been a good brother or son to his family. However, Sabrina and Charly are doubtful that he's ready to come home and make excuses to leave him at the facility. They rush away and feel that something strange is going on with Freddy. Honestly, he has gone very far into the other extreme.
Bella meets with Susie to "kiss the ring" and set up their working relationship. After getting the payment to Bobby for the painting, Bella asks for Susie to take her under her wing in this business. But Susie seems to shuffle Bella off on Eddie and makes sure Bella knows that Susie ranks higher than Eddie in dealings with her father. It's an interesting and rather confusing conversation.
Eddie calls off Mr. Takashi's latest hit when he informs him that the target's wife and children are present. When he doesn't agree, Eddie and Geoff strangle him. The accountant walks into the kitchen to find Eddie, who instructs him to send his wife and children away while he deals with a "rat in the kitchen." He pleads for his life as Eddie raises the gun to his head.
Eddie hesitates, not able to kill him, but when the accountant fights back, Eddie shoots him dead. There's a massive blood splatter on the wall and ceiling. Susie's waiting for him and knows there's a body in the back of his car: Mr. Takashi. He plans to use the body to secure his place in the House of Lords with Hawthorne. They drug Hawthorne and plant the body in his bed.
Hawthorne calls them for help, and Susie now learns what Eddie's been cooking up with a ploy to decriminalize marijuana despite her father's wishes. He wants them to have their cake and eat it too. Eddie admits that he was going to pull Susie into the plan, but he wanted to make sure he could deliver. As Eddie's sworn in, it's revealed that Freddy's spiritual sponsor is none other than Dixon.
