We've officially reached the halfway point of The Gentlemen season 2, and Eddie's sinking deeper into dangerous territory as his ambition and thirst for power threaten to take himself down. He still has Susie by his side as a partner, and as they're looking to go against her father's wishes for the marijuana bill, their list of enemies could expand in ways they hadn't imagined.
The Gentlemen season 2 episode 4 begins with Eddie and Susie meeting with Bobby and Hawthorne regarding the bill, which they agree to kill. But afterward, Eddie and Susie let Hawthorne in on the real plan to pass the bill. Hawthorne explains that the Bishop of Sussex could be the one to block their plan from coming to fruition. Eddie meets with the Bishop and tries to give her the hard sell.
He brings up her wayward son, Oscar Thorne, as a means to help each other. Oscar's gotten in a bit of money trouble, borrowing money from his mother to repay his debts to the people he owes. The Bishop hasn't heard from Oscar since his second call for money. Eddie offers to help her son in exchange for her vote in favor of the bill, allowing them to both get what they want.
A very important falcon goes missing
Eddie and Susie arrive at an estate to meet with Oscar by paying off his head of security. The pair arrive in the strange backroom where Oscar is testing on birds. He borrowed money from Pat Gallagher, a cocaine dealer and fight promoter, and owes him £50 million plus interest. Eddie and Susie take a meeting with Pat, who claims he waived the interest on Oscar's debt for a favor.
Oscar tracked down a £1 million white saker falcon for Pat since he's not allowed out of the country. He wants to use the bird as his ticket back to the Middle East. However, Oscar used the falcon to his advantage to breed more birds, but the female falcons ate the expensive male falcon (apparently?). Pat threatens to kill Oscar if he doesn't have the bird by the end of the week.
Hawthorne opens up to Jack about his guilt surrounding Takashi's death and gets some reassurance from Susie's brother. When he slips and mentions about passing the bill, Jack suddenly gets suspicious about what might be going on. In the car, Eddie ignores a call from Bella and gets some teasing from Susie, who answers a call from Bella to set up a meeting later that night.
Bobby calls Susie regarding his doubts about Hawthorne and the bill, but she throws water on anything weird going on. Unconvinced by Susie's words, Bobby asks Jack to call in Organ John. Eddie speaks with Oscar's head of security about the missing bird. Aslan admits to stealing the bird, which Eddie offers to purchase from him for a small payout and a threat.
Aslan removed the hood from the falcon, and as an apex predator, he flew away after a drone. Now the bird is really missing. (Why they couldn't fly the drone back toward them and catch the bird, we'll never know.) Well, they're back at square one with Pat Gallagher. Eddie and Susie's double date with Bella and Joe turns out to be a success until Joe's old acquaintance drop by to annoy them.
Joe flashes the gun under his belt to his old friends as tensions rise, which Eddie cools down with a bribe. Bella and Susie talk about Susie's relationship with Eddie, but she insists she wouldn't put their professional partnership in jeopardy. Bella insists that they will find the bird, but before they leave, Joe attacks his old friend. Eddie hands an employee a wad of cash before they leave.
Hawthorne's tragic ending and Eddie's punishment
Hawthorne calls Susie and drops all of his guilt about killing Takashi, forcing her to admit that he didn't kill the man. She comes clean about him being drugged and led to believe he had killed him. Susie continues to threaten him with the situation in order to get him to follow through with the plan. Meanwhile, Eddie makes threats of his own to Joe regarding Susie and his behavior.
Bella targets the female falcon that could call the male falcon back to them, and it works in less than one minute. Getting the falcon back to Pat Gallagher works to get everyone what they want and smooths the entire situation over. Hawthorne also succeeded in getting the bill to go the way Eddie and Susie want, but he intends to separate himself from Susie once their business has finished.
The harsh words Hawthorne says to Susie hits particularly hard as she watches Eddie and Bella get closer. Little does she know, they sneak away to hook up. Organ John pays a visit to Hawthorne for his massage, but clearly, he's not going to get a massage. After Hawthorne's death, the group of voters switched to the other side and blocked the bill, working in Bobby's favor.
Hawthorne allegedly had a heart attack and fell out of a window to his death, but it was obviously orchestrated by Bobby to block the bill. Eddie knows something nefarious is up. On the way to his meeting with Susie and the team, Eddie takes an angry call from Moretti. Bobby's waiting for them with his own angry reprimand. He doesn't want to hear what Eddie has to day.
Susie backs Eddie up despite her father's rage. She and Jack watch as Eddie and Bobby scream at each other, but once the mood calms down, Bobby excuses Eddie and Jack from the office. He talks privately with Susie and forbids her from seeing Eddie until he tells her she can and sends her away on a break. She agrees to his terms without protest. The episode ends with Eddie having a bag thrown over his head as mystery figures take him away.
