The magic of Wonka’s Chocolate Factory melted away quickly as the competition leveled up in Wonka's The Golden Ticket, Netflix's new reality TV series.
It looked like all fun and games from the outside, but once the contestants started their tour, things got flipped upside down. Gumballs were eaten, loved ones were displaced, and the stakes were raised. If only finding their loved ones was as easy as shouting their names and talking to them. Instead, they had to find 23 coins hidden in the chocolate room and add them to each contestant's name slot. If they got three coins, they were released.
Hunter is eliminated in episode 2
At the end of episode 1, three out of five fates were decided. Only Moon and Marcy remained trapped in their giant gumballs in the larger-than-life gumball machine. Everett and James had the last two coins. After a lot of tears and emotional stories, they decided between another set of brothers and a pair of best friends. Who did they pick?
Marcy pops out of the gumball, leaving Moon still trapped. Joanna is thrilled while Hunter is heartbroken. While his brother’s tour ends, Hunter must go on as a one-man show and play it for both of them.
WonkaVision 2.0
An Oompa Loompa leads them back into the living quarters so the newly reunited loved ones can see the place. Everyone continues to build relationships and stay true to their teammates. In the meantime, Kayla is still upset that Jason and Nick made a mistake in not siding with them. There’s some tension in the house, and Kayla is making everyone uncomfortable. She wants payback, and trust, she’ll get it.
Fifty years ago, Wonka’s tour included Wonkavision when it encountered a small problem. Now, he’s bringing it back with new tech with things only going wrong 3 out of 10 times. To set the mood, the Oompa Loompas set out four groups of TV dinners: Eel or no eel, the 1% club sandwich, Name that tuna, and Press your duck.
The constants board the Wonkatania and ride along the chocolate river. Powered by chocolate and a dream, they are ready for anything. After making their way down a long hallway of Oompa Loompas portraits, they enter the WonkaVision studio. Taking over from Mr. Wonka is Nick Cannon hosting the craziest game show ever. He tells them to get back in their TV dinner groups and pick one person from each group to start the game.
Wheel of Misfortune
Tatum, Ziad, Garrison, and Sasha take the risk while the others take a seat. Wonkavision TV transports our four brave souls into the TV onto the game show of their nightmares. Wheel of Misfortune comes with a twist. Instead of spinning for their fate, they’ll be deciding the ones in the seats. Who will end up in the five armchairs and who will remain safe?
As much as our players dreamed of positive vibes, the skull and crossbone symbol still captured many players. After Joanne receives a golden remote with five buttons, Hunter becomes suspicious that none of the prizes are real. That fact becomes true when all our armchairs (Jackson, Marcy, Ray, Jason, and Bill) are filled, but one more person receives the skull and crossbones.
Hunter is forced to play a game of dark musical chairs and save one person while risking his own termination. To make it somewhat fair, he trades places with Ray so only his grandson remains at risk. The game isn’t over yet.
Poppy (Ray) gets a consolation prize: red licorice, which finishes the easy part of the game. The four brave souls return to the TV room a little nervous about the hard part of the game. The emotional decisions aren’t over yet. Joanne’s golden remote isn’t so lucky, as she has to decide who moved on and who didn't. After much thought, she clicks the armchair’s number, and Jason’s chair races backwards out of the TV room. The others are safe for now.
Red licorice pays the price
As everyone decides it is time for bed, Wonka announces it is time to get twisted. Those with the red licorice prize are on the hot seat while their loved ones support them. Nick, Ray, Ava, Bryce, and Everett are on the chopping block. As Wonka says, “There’s no time to rest, they must perform a factory test.”
Despite his age, Ray, who is 78 years old, is determined to beat termination for a second time today. Will he do it, or will he fall?
To test their endurance, these five unlucky contestants must twist Wonka’s licorice machines. They step onto the platform, grab the hands above their heads, and hang on tight. As we leave off in episode 1, things aren’t looking so hot for one of our contestants.
To preserve the magic, you’ll have to stay tuned for the results. Who will hang on until the end and who will be terminated next? So far, Moon and Jason have been terminated. I wonder who will join them.
