In Wonka's The Golden Ticket episode 7, the Wonkavator was a bloodbath, but what comes next will test their alliances even further. The contestants are down nine people with 2 pairs and 5 singles.
Both sides want to take out each other, but Gabrielle remains on the fence. She has alliances with the singles and one of the pairs. Then, there's Ziad, who is starting to gaslight a little too hard. Who's next to leave the tour and who will continue on?
Let's see where we stand with our contestants:
Moon exited the game through a gumball. Jason rolled out of the TV room backwards, and Nick went out in a box of licorice. James was voted out of the house. Marcy and Joanne were unlucky bees.
Bill exploded on the spot. Poppy lost the jellybean brain buster. Kayla failed at being team lead. Shawn went out when Kayla chose her. Hunter's building skills failed him. Jeff sacrificed himself while Kellye lost the draw. Sasha missed the target. Ava's lies caught up to her.
The Sorting Room results
The Pink team remembers where they had their candies as the tubes emptied. Austin knows at least the first and last tubes seem right from the riddle. The Pink team pulls the lever and only has two tubes filled correctly, and the audience knows that the riddle holds up. Hopefully, our contestants remember those placements.
The Green team messed up. While Everett tries to tell Ziad the ends are the same, Ziad says they aren't. Ziad realizes he's messed up.
On the other side of the room, Austin is remembering and figuring it out. The Pink team struggles to work together, while the Green team gets all the tubes correct. The Pink team is safe. The Green team is at risk for termination. Wonka proves he is twisted when he tells them they can mark one person safe on the losing team.
Gabrielle tries to be fair, but Ziad says he's done a lot for everyone here. That automatically makes me dislike him. He keeps digging his hole, and Austin isn't happy with what his “partner” is saying about their partnership. Yet they wink at each other, so who knows? After all the back and forth, Garrison is safe.
Garrison has the power to mark another player safe. The last one standing will be terminated. When he picks Gabby, Ziad tells him he picked wrong if he wanted to win.
Gabrielle must choose between Everett, Bryce, and Ziad to keep safe after the Pink team lost the sorting game. The Green Team (Tatum, Taylor, Jackson, and Austin) and two Pink Team members (Garrison and Gabrielle) are safe from termination.
By a shock of the draw, Gabrielle looks at the three men as individuals and picks Bryce. Unfortunately he disappoints Gabrielle and everyone else and picks Ziad. Even after he kept running his mouth and being terrible, he still got chosen. Everett is terminated on the spot, and I'm sad. Garrison tries to be kind, and Ziad declines his handshake.
The devil is in the details
With emotions high from the day before, the next day starts with a new challenge. Everyone is studying the little things in the house and all the stress as they prepare to focus on winning. Before, where there were massive pictures of Rusty, there are now various pictures of Rusty with different details. Each photo has a number.
"Before you is a corridor… With wall-to-wall portraits of Mr. Wonka's most beloved. Oompa Loompa, Rusty. You must each search the corridor and find the portrait that matches the large master portrait.”
The catch is if you're incorrect. Your keypad will lock for 30 seconds. Whereas if you are correct, you will be able to leave the corridor, a new master portrait will be hung, and the game will start again until there is only one remaining player.
Trusting his skills, Bryce guesses correctly and exits the corridor first after Ziad guesses incorrectly and is locked out. Bryce returns to the living quarters to watch the others on the TV and hopes Taylor makes it out of this challenge. In under seconds of the new reveal, Ziad guesses correctly and joins Bryce. Six players remain, but only five safety slots remain.
Relying on the details, Taylor makes it out. Jackson immediately spots the difference, but so does Gabrielle, but where his is right, hers is incorrect. She doesn't stay wrong for long, and she gets the next one right in seconds. Only Tatum, Garrison, and Austin remain with two slots up for grabs. Garrison notices the eyebrows and selects the correct matching portraits (even I noticed that one!). Only two players remain, and Wonka turns the camera off, leaving the winner a mystery to the safe players.
The final portrait is revealed, and Austin is immediately locked out for 30 seconds from the keypad. This leaves a 30-second gap for Tatum to pull ahead. She finds it as Austin's keypad unlocks and they start typing at the same time.
Somehow, Austin pulls through and walks back into the living quarters. Tatum is terminated on the spot by choosing incorrectly where he chose right. She takes it with grace, and Wonka rewards her as he tells her to exit through the gift shop to purchase a framed picture of Rusty.
6 contestants remain
Rusty leads the contestants back into the WonkaVision 2.0 studio. One of my favorite comedians, Wayne Brady, joins the contestants as the next host. Brady doesn't waste any time letting Bryce know he will be the one to assign the operator for this next factory test due to him being the first one out of the corridor. He holds the power for who the operator will be but also if the tour will go on or be terminated, if that person fails or passes the factory test.
Deciding to risk fate, he picks Garrison as one of the singles. As Garrison points out, this could backfire for Bryce considering he just gave Garrison power. We can't forget that Garrison is now known as G-baby from the other contestants. Even Brady loves it. While Garrison remains in the TV room, the rest of the contestants beam into the TV.
There are eight podiums, each with an egg. Six of the eggs are good; two are bad. Brady tells them they have to do their best to end up at a podium with a good egg. If they end up with a bad egg, their tour will be terminated. Wasting no time, each contestant must pick their egg.
There's always a catch when it comes to Wonka. After picking their eggs, Brady reveals those are their eggs for now, but during this test they will each have one chance to “steal or no steal”.
To steal, you can switch to another player's egg or move to an unchosen egg (eggs 3 and 6). To not steal, you simply just stay on your current egg. But here's where it gets diabolical, The operator will know which two eggs are bad. The operator Garrison can make three phone calls to try and influence whether you switch to or stay on bad eggs. If Garrison does not succeed at putting two players at podiums with bad eggs, he will be terminated.
Steal or No Steal
Garrison has to make a tough call when the bad eggs are revealed as Jackson and Austin. Although he is tight with Jackson, he made a new alliance of sorts with Austin and Ziad before the challenge. So who will he call to tell them to move when his bad eggs seem so set in stone? He chooses to tell Bryce, Gabrielle, and Taylor the truth about their food eggs. Since he has completed his three phone calls, now the game is in their hands to see if they are confident in Garrison.
Unfortunately, while Gabrielle and Bryce trust Garrison, Taylor doesn't believe him. She's right that Garrison knows two bad eggs are already claimed and is manipulating them into staying. She's wrong that he called any of the bad eggs; he only called good eggs. She thinks they need to move eggs. As the choice moves to the TV contestants, Garrison's feed is cut off. A few minutes pass, and Brady invites Garrison into the WonkaVision 2.0 TV.
The time has come. Gabby stands on the Eggdicator to see if her egg is good or bad. She reveals she stayed with her egg after her phone call with Garrison, meaning she's safe. With Taylor up next, I'm nervous for her since she felt she needed people to move eggs. Her strategy worked, her egg is good, and she hopes the bad eggs are with Austin and Ziad.
The game is anything but fair. It's stressful, and it comes down to who will be terminated. Did Garrison convince people not to move, or did he fail? Are there two bad eggs, one, or none by the end of the game? Find out when the finale episodes 8 and 9 will be released on Wednesday, Sept. 30, only on Netflix.
