True Detective creator hints at more than three seasons
By Josh Hill
While we haven’t heard too much about the new season of the hit HBO series True Detective, we’re starting to hear more and more details about not just this upcoming second season but a third season as well. But series creator Nic Pizzolatto has hinted that three seasons is really all he plans on doing which means we could see True Detective end after three years on the air.

But while he said that three seasons is all he can see himself doing at the moment, he did leave the door cracked open ever so slightly to revisit that claim in a few years time. Pizzolatto didn’t outright say he will do more than three seasons of the show, but the door is no doubt open.
"“But this was sort of how I shoe-horned my way in, so I’ll be sticking with it for a while. I am very excited about the opportunity the format of the show affords, though. I mean that hard work … comes with this great opportunity, which is to create a new TV series every year. That’s exciting; it’s just time consuming and draining.”"
All of this might be reading too far into Pizzolatto’s comments, but the bottom line is the show might live on beyond Pizzolatto writing the series, as we’ve seen in the past shows survive with their original creators taking a backseat role. That might not be the best thing for True Detective, but there’s no doubt hope that the show will last longer than just three seasons.
