True Detective Dream Director: Christopher Nolan

The cast of True Detective has yet to be announced but it’s something that fans are starting to get antsy about who will fill out the lead roles in the show. But one thing we’re not paying enough attention to is who will help direct the series moving forward. The show is moving to a multi-director format but htat doesn’t mean we can’t think about directors who would serve the series well by even just directing a single episode.

A dream though would be to have a Hollywood director just take over an entire season of the show and at the top of that list is Oscar nominated filmmaker Christopher Nolan.

He’s best known for his work on The Dark Knight Trilogy but he’s established himself as the Stanley Kubrick of this generation of filmmakers. His tedious attention to detail and insane thought process has made it so he hasn’t produced a single subpar film to date with his weakest outing still being better than what most directors can make these days.

If you saw Insomnia then you know what you’re getting into with Nolan as he can both elicit stellar performances out of his actors and tackle dark subject manner in a way that isn’t gratuitously dark, like we see so often with lesser filmmakers. Everything has a point in a Nolan film and his version of True Detective would be a warped Hitchcockian trip down a rabbit hole we probably didn’t even know existed.

There hasn’t been one Nolan film anyone hasn’t walked out of thoroughly entertained as he seems to be the perfect director to tackle True Detective in a way that would truly be his own original vision.
