True Detective Cast: Should Gary Oldman Take Lead Role?
By Josh Hill
Every time we hear an actor talk about how they love the hit HBO series we all have fallen in love with, we instantly link them to the show. That hasn’t been the case for Gary Oldman though, who proclaimed a love for True Detective earlier in the week but hasn’t been subjected to the inevitable connection that we all draw when an actor talks about the show.

If there was ever a time for an actor to be linked to True Detective for any reason it’s Gary Oldman. Not only is he a fan favorite of anyone who like quality acting but he’s a chameleon who can fit into any setting he’s thrown against.
Oldman has had a pretty great career up to this point as we went from being typecast as a villain in the 90s to taking on one of the most heroic roles there is in Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight Trilogy. Putting him in True Detective could be a brilliant move for the series as it would give the show a powerful lead character that would be impossible to read.
It’s amazing to think of Oldman sinking into the lead role on True Detective and while it’s unlikely to ever happen it’s one of the more realistic casting fantasies that we can have.
