By Josh Hill
We’ve been waiting weeks and months to hear news about the second season of True Detective but we finally got a decent scoop from The Wrap on Saturday morning. According to The Wrap, True Detective has turned in it’s scripts for the second season and there appears to be just one male lead and one female lead.

This, of course, leads to the natural question of if this was the right choice. All of this is assuming that the scoop isn’t bunk like the rest we’ve heard but should it hold up then we have to ask ourselves how split gender leads will work out in the end.
Right off the bat it seems like a solid idea. Not only is Nic Pizzolatto getting a female character front and center but he’s also not letting fans bully him into deciding what his show will be about and who the characters will be. The audience never knows better than the filmmaker and that’s a tried and true statement that Pizzolatto is using to his advantage.
This seems like a great way to cast the leads as we get to see the best of both worlds and it’s all Pizzolatto’s organic vision. He said that he wants a female lead in season two and we’re getting that, along with a male lead that will fit Pizzolatto’s vision for the series. It’s the right move and we have to remember we can’t judge the how too harshly when not a single frame has been shot.
