True Detective Dream Casting: Guy Pearce
Guy Pearce might not be quite as big in the U.S as Colin Farrel, but he by no means an inferior actor. The Emmy Award winning actor has a very wide and healthy filmography under his belt, including The King’s Speech and a stunning turn in Christopher Nolan’s Memento. Regardless of the quality of the film you’re seeing him in, Pearce can always be counted on to turn in a performance worth noticing. He’s much like John Goodman in that way.
But that’s not what we’re talking about.
Need more concrete evidence of Pearce’s qualifications? Check out the 2005 film The Proposition, which is a rattling Nick Cave penned neo-noir western set in Australia. Of course, there’s always Memento, which saw him as the career-defining damaged Leonard Shelby out for revenge. Pearce tends to bring a slyness to his roles, which can also be seen in the The Count of Monte Cristo — again, regardless of your feelings towards the film itself.

Like most actors, Pearce has some TV roles (mostly TV films) under his belt, but they’re few and far between. That doesn’t mean that he wouldn’t be interested in a project as currently distinguished as True Detective if the proper stars aligned. Current rumors have creator Pizzolatto currently chasing Ewan McGregor, but taking a look at Guy Pearce would also be appreciated.
