But while the loss is permanent, there is a fight to find out just how many votes the HBO series finished behind Breaking Bad for the award, and it may be something we never know. It’s trivial at this point and nothing more but fans may want to know just how many votes True detective needed to win Best Drama Series.

The official voting tally hasn’t been announced, but it’s a safe bet to assume the loss was a landslide — but that goes for the other series as well.

Lest we forget that this was the final season that Breaking Bad can be eligible foe an Emmy, which means we should have all seen thing coming. Just like how the Academy Awards waiting until Lord of the Rings: Return of the King to honor the Lord of the rings trilogy with Best Picture, the Emmy voters weren’t going to let Breaking Bad fade into the sunset without giving them a giant send off.

That’s what happened too, as Bryan Cranston, Aaron Paul and Anna Gunn all won as well — likely by similarly steep margins. The bottom line is that it doesn’t matter how many votes True Detective lost by,  the show lost and probably shouldn’t have ever entered itself in anything other than Best Miniseries this year.
