Matthew McConaughey revived his career on True Detective, although whether he did or not is up for debate. But he was already on his way to making a comeback prior to the HBO series debuting, as he received a crucial script while filming the show.

In an interview with USA Today, McConaughey noted that he got the script for his upcoming film Interstellar while he was filming True Detective. Not only that, but the way he got the script was so True Detective that it’s perfect.
"The importance of secrecy was clear from the moment McConaughey received the script on the New Orleans set of True Detective. A messenger mysteriously appeared, handed him a locked briefcase (with script inside) through a fence and waited for McConaughey to read it.“Some 5 1/2 hours later, I came back and I handed the case back to him.”"
If there was ever a way to receive a script while filming True Detective, McConaughey received it that way. Not only does it fit the seediness of True Detective, but it fits the MO that Christopher Nolan has about being super secretive about his films. McConaughey had already signed up for Interstellar before everyone started fawning over him for True Detective but this just goes to show how amazing Nolan and McConaughey will be together.
