True Detective at NYCC: The Fandom Expands
Much like this year’s earlier SanDiego Comic Con, the New York Comic Con is bereft of True Detective in every official capcity. That doesn’t mean that True Detective is absent altogether. Fans and artists have taken it upon themselves to bring True Detective to NYCC. All you have to do is wander over to the Artis Alley Section.
The Artist Alley features independent artists that fans can directly interact with. Usually they’ll do sketches and you can purchase any work they have on display. Just taking a cursory glance around the exhibitors proved that True Detective had officially broken into Comic Con even without an official presence.

Fan art, especially of Matthew McConaughey, could be seen at several artists’s booths. The fact that True Detective has broken into he Comic Con scene even without the help of HBO is a great thing. The fans out there have spoken, and this is just further proof that True Detective has truly carved its way into popular culture.
Hopefully in the coming years we’ll see a more official True Detective presence at HBO, whether it be panels or even merch. The fans and artists clearly want it there. Now it’s just on HBO to make it happen.
