True Detective Season 2: No HBO Announcement for Taylor Kitsch?

Once Colin Farrell outed himself as a confirmed lead for True Detective, it wasn’t long before HBO sent out official confirmation of both his and Vince Vaughn’s involvement. HBO has so far been quiet this time around, as they’ve yet to officially confirm his involvement. Not that it particularly matters as we all know it’s happening. We don’t need HBO to confirm it for us at this point, though some character and plot details would be nice.

HBO’s track record when it comes to True Detective announcements has not been spotless. In fact, we’ve had no constant, reliable source of information for season two thus far. Details that creator/writer Nic Pizzolatto have dropped have been interesting and exciting, but ultimately unreliable. The best we can expect from Pizzolatto is an outline of what the story might look like.

HBO’s own Michael Lombardo also hasn’t been altogether trustworthy, which  was proven true over the summer when he said details were forthcoming. Spoiler alert: they were not. True Detective’s production has been locked down tight, but there has been an overall messiness to how information is released. It’s oddly disorganized, especially when you consider that True Detective is currently HBO’s biggest rising star.

But after all that, we know that Taylor Kitsch is involved with True Detective. In the end we’ll arrive at the premiere of season two regardless of how disheveled the process has been so far. But the fact that there doesn’t seem to be any rhyme or reason to HBO’s process this time around is worth keeping in mind.
