Matthew McConaughey Talks About Playing Rust Cohle (Video)
By Josh Hill
Matthew McConaughey saw True Detective help re-launch his career and he’s reflecting on his time with the series while promoting Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar.
True Detective wasn’t the launching point of the rebirth of Matthew McConaughey as an actor but it was certainly a catalyst. While he didn’t collect any awards for the series, True Detective remains one of McConaughey’s most iconic roles, and it’s something that he’s not afraid to dig up and talk about at random.
To promote the release of Interstellar, Digital Spy sat down with McConaughey who reflected on playing Rust Cohle in Emmy nominated fashion.
It was a role of a lifetime, but McConaughey has moved past Rust Cohle in his career. That being said, he’ll never forget what the role meant to him and fans will never forget him in the role.
McConaughey sunk so deep in to being Rust that it’s still incredible to watch his performance from start to finish and find yourself getting lost in his aura. He owned True Detective and he may be the reason the second season doesn’t live up to the first.
