True Detective Season Two: Will Taylor Kitsch Bring Viewers?
It’s difficult to argue that part of True Detective’s initial appeal had to do with the cast. Some may have tuned in because they were interested in a dark, noir detective story, but many others likely tuned in to see Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson. A-list casting has been a part of True Detective from the very beginning,m and with Vince Vaughn and Colin Farrell confirmed for season two, it’s one part of the formula that won’t be replaced anytime soon.

Colin Farrell and Vince Vaughn are a pair worth tuning in for without adding any notable cast members, but two more leads over the first season means two more actors bringing in their respective fanbases. Most people are going to know Kitsch for his role as Tim Riggins on Friday Night Lights, and fans of that show may migrate to True Detective to see him in action.
Kitsch doesn’t have the same star power as Farrell or Vaughn, but Friday Night Lights was a beloved show with loyal fans. Not all of them will be in the market for True Detective’s brand of dark drama, but more than enough will likely tune in to see Kitsch in action. If Rachel McAdams does end up taking the final lead role, Kitsch will be something of an anomaly; the only lead not on Hollywood’s A-list.
We’re rooting for him.
