True Detective Season Two: Premiere Date Limbo

It’s officially been over a year since the first season of True Detective ended. That may be difficult to believe, but there you have it. We’ve gone a year without a second season of True Detective, but fortunately the appetite for it hasn’t dwindled. It would only take a cursory glance through the myriad of True Detective  spoofs that continue to pour in to see that.

More from HBO

True Detective’s second season has had more than a few rumored premiere dates, with summer now being the major candidate — partially because all the other dates have passed. Being secretive is, in a way, part of True Detective’s charm even if we’d wish they’d involve fans a bit more.

Now that it’s spring it’s beginning to feel a little odd that neither HBO nor the True Detective camp have said anything more about a premiere date. The second season is still filming, but at this point they should have a fairly good idea about when they want it to premiere. Of course, revealing that information is at the discretion of HBO.

If True Detective is indeed going to premiere in the summer, now is the time to get the ball rolling. Game of Thrones is HBO’s big spring series, and True Detective is expected to take over that role in the summer. The two can’t be compared through viewership, but through prestige alone they’re two of the biggest offerings HBO currently has.

We’ve come far enough in the production of True Detective season two that we’re now in a kind of limbo, just waiting patiently for HBO to put things in motions. It won’t be too much longer now, but we’re at the point where waiting becomes all the more difficult.
