This Week in True Detective: Video Games and Cars Edition
This Week in True Detective brings the best of True Detective news from the past week.
The past week brought us close looks at several projects from True Detective actors, and even the return of a certain ad campaign. You can probably guess which one. The Academy Awards continue to inch closer, and Rachel McAdams is nominated for her work in Spotlight. She is, as they say, the talk of the town.

First up, a new game from the developers behind Max Payne and Alan Wake arrives next month, and apparently it takes several cues from True Detective. In Spotlight news, the film won a WGA but didn’t bring home the BAFTA. For what it’s worth, the BAFTA’s also snubbed Rachel McAdams. The real woman behind McAdam’s role, Sacha Pfeiffer, talked about what it was like to work with McAdams.
In terms of other projects, the first trailer for Sing arrived, which stars Matthew McConaughey as a Koala trying to host a singing competition. We also saw the first trailer for the action thriller Bastille Day, which stars Kelly Reilly as backup for Idris Elba. The first trailer for Michelle Monaghan’s exclusive Hulu series, The Path, also premiered — you know, for the spooky-cult loving crowd.
Colin Farrell’s The Lobster suffered a major setback this week when the original disruptor had to bow out due to financial troubles. The new distributor, Alchemy, has not set a new U.S. release date. There was at least some good news for Matthew McConaughey, as it was announced that he will be receiving an honor from Variety for his charitable efforts.
Finally, the newest Lincoln ad campaign kicked off and the balance of the universe was kept right by the reappearance of Matthew McConaughey. This new commercial isn’t as overly philosophical as the others, but at least he does talk to dogs. So there’s that.
Next: Alexandra Daddario will return for the San Andreas sequel.
