Variety Honored Matthew McConaughey Last Night
Varsity’s Unite4:Humanity event took place tonight and honored Matthew McConaughey, among others.
True Detective season two may not be winning any awards, but those involved with it have been doing well for themselves. Well, not so much Cary Fukunaga, anyway. It was previously reported that Variety was going to honor several major actors for their philanthropic contributions a the Unite4:Humanity event, and they event itself took play last night.

According to Variety’s account, Matthew McConaughey was on-hand to receive the honor, and talked about the beginnings of his foundation — Just Keep Livin’:
"“Just keep livin’ — after my father died I started branding everything with that,” he said. “I put it on flip-flops, graffiti, billboards. I have not found one thing in this life that it doesn’t apply to. (Our organization) is gonna keep growing as much as we’re needed. Just keep livin.'”"
A perfect Matthew McConaughey sort of statement. Unfortunately there’s not all that much to tell concerning McConaughey at the ceremony. Variety’s account pinpoints Seth Rogen as the man who stole the show, who joked that he was going to “tell my parents this is a SAG award.”
Next: The Independent Spirit Awards are this weekend.
Matthew McConaughey and Seth Rogen were honored along with Morgan Freeman, Oliva Wilde, Gina Rodriguez, and Lauren Miller. Philanthropy is a worthy cause worth brining attention to, and if True Detective isn’t going to be able to pull in any awards, it’s at least nice to see those involved with it continuing to do well. Especially for something like this.
