The Dark Tower Pushed Back but Production is Underway
The release date for Matthew McConaughey’s The Dark Tower has been pushed back, but production has started.
The news that Matthew McConaughey and Idris Elba will be starring in first film adaptation of Stephen King’s The Dark Tower series is still fresh. Rumors had been swirling for a long time over that one, and so it was actually a surprise to find out that things hadn’t gone off the rails. Not that there always isn’t time for that to happen.

Sony has, according to Collider, announced release date shifts for several of its upcoming movies, and The Dark Tower is one of them. Apparently the move only displaces it by a month — from January 13th to February 17. That’s 2017, by the way. A one month delay for a film that doesn’t even have a teaser poster yet is not a big deal by any means.

At least it is already in production. According to an interview in Entertainment Weekly from a few days back, the ball has already started rolling. Unfortunately when it comes to the two leads, Idris Elba gets the most attention in the article. Instead of simply adapting the first book of the first movie, which would be the typical road to take, The Dark Tower will draw from multiple books.
Next: Taylor Kitsch has his own animated movie too.
As of right now there are only plans for a single film. Everything else hangs on how well it does. Seeing Matthew McConaughey play a villain should be an exciting experience, and we will only have to wait less than a year at this point to see it happen.
