Matthew McConaughey’s Free State of Jones Has Been Delayed
Matthew McConaughey’s civil war action drama has been pushed back.
Matthew McConaughey has a packed 2016 ahead of him, though a few of his movies have gotten off to a rocky start. People are talking about Sea of Trees again even though it doesn’t have a North America release date yet, and now McConaughey’s next film has been slightly pushed back.

According to Variety, Matthew McConaughey’s Free State of Jones, based on the true story of a farmer in the south rebelling against the Confederacy, has been delayed. The original release date was set for May 13th, but it will now release on June 24th. Not all that much of a delay when all is said and done.
Here’s the trailer again:
On the topic of delays, Colin Farrell’s The Lobster is still in flux, and so has Matthew McConaughey’s other project, The Dark Tower. Delays abound, it seems. One film that will likely not be delayed, come hell or high water, is the Harry Potter prequel (also starring Colin Farrell) Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.
Apparently this is the second time that Free State of Jones has been pushed back, though this one wasn’t as drastic as the previous — Free State of Jones was previously slated for October. It’s unlikely that a civil war drama, even if it is action-packed, will be a summer powerhouse. Just in terms of the box office, perhaps October would have actually ended up being better.
Next: Doctor Strange will be Rachel McAdams' next movie.
Or we could be wrong and Free State of Jones will be the runaway hit of the summer. But probably not.
