Go Inside the Episode of Last Week’s Girls Before Tomorrow’s New Episode
Let’s take a look at the making of last week’s Girls before tomorrow night’s new episode premiere.
Girls has been on a hot streak lately. The fifth season has so far offered up most of the characters at their best and most interesting, including both Shoshanna and Elijah. This is Girls as a mature show, one that has had the time to figure out what it actually wants to do and be. Last week’s episode was the strongest of the season so far, and that also goes for this Inside the Episode.

After commenting on the name of the episode, “Old Loves,” Lena Dunham goes right for the juiciest bit: Jessa and Hannah. The confrontation between the two of them is electrifying and stands as the most believable fight that the characters have had so far. It’s brutal. We actually get to hear a bit from Jemima Kirke on shooting that scene, and it’s easy to believe her when she says that it sucked.
Dunham also talks about the sweet Times Square scene with Elijah and Dill, though unfortunately Andrew Rannells isn’t on hand to talk about being a part of it. We also learn that Hannah’s insecurity with being criticized by Fran comes from Lena Dunham’s own insecurities, though the revelation isn’t all that earth-shattering. Especially since the rift between Hannah and Fran was only ever a matter of time.

Sometimes it feels like these clips should be at least double the length to actually talk about everything that’s going on, and that is certainly true of this one. “Old Loves” is the strongest episode of the season so far. Le’t see if Girls can keep up the momentum.
