Once Upon a Time, Colin Farrell Could Have Played Batman
Colin Farrell was once shortlisted for a Batman vs. Superman movie that never was.
Colin Farrell is about to be in what will likely be one of the biggest releases of the year, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Fans are already hyped into a frenzy over the Harry Potter prequel/spinoff film that will begin a new trilogy. More than a decade ago, however, Colin Farrell could have potentially been in another huge film that never was.
According to Newsweek, who did most of the dirty work, a Batman vs. Superman film was originally in the planning stages back in 2002. That film obviously didn’t happen, and likely would have been very different from the one we have today. In the crossover movie that was supposed to reboot both franchises at once, Colin Farrell was shortlisted to play either Batman or Superman. He seems like more of a Batman, doesn’t he?

The rest of the potential actor list is a humorous look back at the early 2000’s. Could you imagine Johnny Depp, Jude Law, James Franco, or Paul Walker playing either of the two roles? Outside of James Franco, those were some of the top actors of the time. Not that they aren’t A-list anymore, but they would likely not appear on such a list today.
Really, this is the story of how a billboard for Batman vs. Superman ended up in the Will Smith vampire movie, I Am Legend. It’s a long, weird story of something that didn’t ever pan out. It’s probably for the best that it never saw the light of day.

Still, do you think Colin Farrell could have pulled off playing Batman? It’s hard to imagine him in that role now, let alone more than a decade ago.
