No, Olivia Munn Did Not Confirm Herself for True Detective
A simple joke on Instagram seems to have flown off the handle a bit.
There has been a draught of True Detective season three rumors as of late. That may be because season three just hasn’t progressed very far, or it could be that HBO is taking True Detective’s secrecy to a new level. To be honest, it’s likely the former at this point.
It may be because fans and media are so hungry for anything related to True Detective — which is a little surprising after the reaction season two. Regardless of the reason behind it, an obvious joke that Olivia Munn made the other day has begun to spiral out of control. Multiple outlets are now questioning whether or not Munn is actually hinting at a role in True Detective‘s third season.
Here’s the photo once again to hammer home the point that this whole thing is ridiculous:
More from HBO
- HBO expects House of the Dragon season 2 release in summer 2024
- HBO delays three hit shows to 2025 but one big show is still coming in 2024
- Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty will end its run on HBO
- Winning Time season 2, episode 7 recap: “What Is and What Should Never Be”
- Winning Time season 2, episode 6 recap: “Beat L.A.”
Oh, and Jason Bateman and T.J miller are also in the photo.
There is, however, something nice and surprising about how quickly this has spread. Regardless of any actual interest in True Detective season, it seems that casting is sill a popular topic. People are always going to want to know which well-known actors will take on True Detective, which is not really a unique quality anymore. Many shows now have A-list actors involved, but True Detective, along with Fargo, did help kick off the trend.
This isn’t to say that Olivia Munn couldn’t handle herself in True Detective. It would actually be an interesting role for her and she could probably pull it off. But it’s not happening.

When the first credible casting rumors to begin, don’t expect them to come from the actors themselves on social media.
Glad we got that all figured out.
