The first images from Nic Pizzolatto’s The Magnificent Seven have been released.

Referring to the remake of The Magnificent Seven that is on the horizon as Nic Pizzolatto’s may be a tad disingenuous. Pizzolatto was one of the first writers to take a crack at the script, but others came after him. How much of Pizzolatto’s work remains is anyone’s guess at this point, but the odds aren’t very good.

That said, that doesn’t mean that The Magnificent Seven won’t be a fun ride in its own right. The first few images were released today and show off some of the shootout action. USA Today was given an exclusive on the new images, much like it was for the recent Term Life clip. Check out a few choice pics below:

More from HBO

It’s a ridiculous cast. Denzel Washington, Ethan Hawke, Vincent D’Onofrio, and Chris Pratt are all present. Ethan Hawke talked about the trouble they had while filming The Magnificent Seven in a recent interview — apparently they had to contend with horrible weather.

In the photos that were related to USA Today, Denzel Washington is gets the most attention. Even though the remake is an ensemble cast, he is arguably the biggest star and will likely receive the most attention. Chris Pratt has become a huge star in his own right, though it’s not quite the same thing.

Unfortuatnely we will never know what Nic Pizzolatto’s original script looked like, which is a real shame. If it wasn’t heavily rewritten, The Magnificent Seven could have pushed Pizzolatto into the film arena. As it stands now, his name is being pushed int the background. That is, of course, only fair if most of his contributions ended up being cut.

Next: Colin Farrell spoke a bit about Fantastic Beasts.

We still don’t know what Pizzolatto is working on, whether it be True Detective season three or something else entirely. It would be surprising if he talked about his work on The Magnificent Seven. Then again, it would be surprising for him to talk publicly about anything at all.
