HBO Has Flipped the Hype Switch for All The Way

HBO is pushing its upcoming adaptation of All The Way, starring Bryan Cranston.

HBO tends to make an event out of its various film projects. A HBO original movie comes with what feels like built-in prestige — all polished and award ready. That may sound like a knock, but it’s not. The movies, more often than not, end up deserving the amount of attention they get.

Next up on the HBO docket is All The Way, a screen adaptation of the stage play of the same name. Bryan Cranston will reprise his role as president Lyndon B. Johnson, and HBO recently debuted a new teaser:

More from HBO

As with all new HBO trailers, it’s followed by a bump for HBO Now. All The Way looks to have all the makings of a heavy-hitter, and even though we haven’t seen it yet it would be a surprise if it wasn’t nominated for an award. That’s just the nature of the beast.

Bryan Cranston’s portrayal of Lyndon B. Johnson garnered critical acclaim, and there’s no reason to believe that he won’t be able to pull it off again. This is coming hot off the heels of another biopic, Trumbo, in which Cranston played persecuted writer Dalton Trumbo.

Trumbo’s fire quickly fizzled during the last award season, so it will be interesting to see if All The Way will be able to hold on. Though it is technically too early to talk about award buzz, HBO looks to be making a strong early push. Assuming that All The Way is nominated, HBO will also have Lemonade leading the pack.

Next: Game of Thrones and Jon Snow.

All The Way will debut on HBO on May 21st, leaving more than enough time to share at least one more trailer. HBO always has many projects in production, but they’ve been giving special attention to this one. Hopefully it will be worth it.
