Don’t worry, Bill Murray only cares about the students in this promo for Vice Principals.

HBO is looking to continue its winning blend of comedy and drama this summer when it debuts both The Night Of and Vice Principals. The latter comes from the same team behind the winning Eastbound & Down, and looks it. HBO has now premiered the first official promo for Vice Principals, which brings along Bill Murray:

More from HBO

Before you get too excited, Bill Murray will not star in Vice Principals. He will play the retiring principal, and Danny McBride and Walton Goggins have to duke it out over who is going to win the coveted position. It’s such a stupidly simple idea that it’s a wonder it hasn’t been done before, but here we are.

This looks like it could be the perfect comedy to dig into during the hot summer, and its pedigree almost guarantees a hit. A strange sort of hit. There is something perversely satisfying about watching two school officials fight, isn’t there?

Vice Principals is described as a “dark comedy,” though the dark aspect doesn’t really come through in this promo. It’s expected that both characters will be using dirty, underhanded tricks to make the other look worse. There is plenty of time before its July 17th premiere to show off the darker side of Vice Principals.

Eastbound & Down had a similar tone to it, so fans of that will likely be right at home here. Vice Principals will have an eighteen episode first season, which is a tad higher than average HBO shows, which tend to float around ten episodes. For comparison’s sake, Eastbound & Down ran for four seasons and had 29 episodes.

Vice Principals could prove to have longer legs, but it’s a bit too early to tell just yet.
