Is Daenerys One of the Weakest Characters on Game of Thrones?
Game of Thrones has its ups and downs, and right now it looks as if Daenerys is getting the short end of the stick.
Game of Thrones is the most popular drama with an ensemble cast currently airing. It might be the most popular one of all time. With so many characters to follow, not all can be treated equally. For a long time that meant that Bran had the story that dragged the most. Having the character take a year off was the best thing that could have happened. So what’s going on with Daenerys?
Six episodes into the sixth season of Game of Thrones, Dany’s storyline hasn’t moved much. The first few episodes were spent trying to find her and as of last Sunday’s episode she’s still not back in Meereen. That’s a problem that has plagued her story since the very beginning — she is almost always on the move. That means that not all that much ends up happening, and when it does, it has historically been a “one step forward, two steps back” scenario.

Daenerys was the weakest link in “Blood of my Blood.” Her character is frequently prone to grand proclamations, and the episode chose to end on one of her (many) speeches that basically translate to how badass she is and how everything will be hers. This is a line we’ve heard time and time again, and one that’s getting old.
Withs so much going on this season, and with Bran finally back in the action, Dany’s plot feels slower than usual. In fact, watching Varys and Tyrion attempt to rule Meereen in her stead is more interesting that watching Daenerys and Daario. A quick scene with Drogon doesn’t do much to spice up a stale speech.

The second half of the season could prove to be more exciting for Dany, but there are other, more exciting, plots going on. Sansa, Bran, Arya, and Jon are all moving forward while it feels like Dany is falling back on old habits.
