Watch the Dark New Trailer for The Night Of
By Julie Kelly
The Night Of has a dark new trailer that isn’t playing around.
Unlike last summer, there will be no new season of True Detective to dig into next month. In fact, there may never be a new season of True Detective. That particular loss will be made easier to handle thanks to the premiere of The Night Of, which is a new similar limited series. The Night Of was apparently a passion project of James Gandolfini, though there was trouble getting this U.S. adaptation off the ground before Gandolfini passed away.
Before last night’s new episode of Game of Thrones HBO showed off a new trailer for The Night Of that further showcased that foreboding mood. The full trailer also shows off John Turturro for the first time. Check it out:

The trailer keeps The Night Of’s secrets close to the chest, though it does have a definite True Detective vibe. There’s also a nice shot of gore, so this new series probably won’t be for the squeamish. Perhaps to further drive home the point that not only is The Night Of a miniseries, but that it’s also something special, the trailer has a specific name. The trailer is called “Seeing.” Spooky, no?
This is the most dialogue we’ve seen from The Night Of, as the previous trailers have been more about setting a mood.

HBO figured out that, for some reason, the summer is the right time for creepy, dark, detective dramas. Being a limited series means that there’s no pressure to set anything up for further seasons, though anything is always possible if it performs well. Considering that the summer has long bene known as a TV dead zone, there is little reason why HBO won’t be able to take advantage of that and offer up some must-see TV.
