Silicon Valley showrunner sings deal with HBO for another two years.
Silicon Valley, though it doesn’t get the same amount of attention as Veep, has been a bright spot in HBO’s comedy lineup. Part of that has been due to showrunner Alec Berg, who has been with the show since the beginning. According to details of a new deal with HBO, that’s not going to change anytime soon.
According to Variety, Alec Berg has signed a new deal with HBO extending his time with the network. The deal will extend his stay on Silicon Valley for another two years. He will also be handling the Bill Hader series, Barry, and will be responsible for bringing in new projects. A new Alec Berg series or two would be cause to celebrate, though we might have to wait a bit longer to get something new.

The deal is somewhat similar to the one that HBO signed with True Detective creator Nic Pizzolatto, though that deal may not end up giving us any new seasons of True Detective and he has no new series on the horizon. Silicon Valley, however, has been a hit, and there’s no reason to believe that will change any time soon. It will be exciting to see what new projects come to HBO through Berg in the future, though for now his hands will be full with Silicon Valley and as a writer and Executive Producer on Barry.
Next: The Night Of will stream its first episode early.
HBO’s comedy game has been strong as of late, due in part to Berg and the success of Silicon Valley. That’s a trend that HBO is going to try to continue into the summer as it preps Vice Principals.
