Vinyl Stars Are Not Happy With Cancellation
The cast of Vinyl isn’t too pleased with the way things turned out
Despite Vinyl’s low ratings and disappointing critical reception it was still something of a shock when HBO canceled the series. That news also came as a shock to those involved with the series itself — actors that expected to come back for at least one more year. Unfortunately, that’s not how it worked out, and not everyone is pleased about it.
Vinyl started off as a big deal and had huge names attached to it — names like Martin Scorsese and Mic Jagger. But its first, and only season, proved to be a bit of a mess. According to Page Six, Vinyl actor Bo Dietl (who played Joe Corso) said that leading man Bobby Cannavale isn’t taking it so well. Dietl describes him as being “kind of down” and mirrors that sentiment for himself.

Dietl was also against replacing Terence Winter, calling it a “stupid thing to do.” Perhaps that’s not too far from the truth. Winter guided the show into creation, and could have taken it to different places. If nothing else, it was a blaring warning sign when Winter was replaced.
Dietl and Cannavale aren’t the only ones. Ray Romano — who recently gave a great interview to Variety — is also down about the news. Speaking to News AU, he described the cancellation as a “knife in the guts,” though he’s not all doom and gloom.
"“I was so happy to have a role like that, to be able to go to those places; I’ve never had an opportunity before like that…I got to work with some great people and do some good stuff. Hopefully someone was watching!”"

It’s not usual for a network to renew a series and then cancel it. This is, however, the second time that HBO has done it in the span of two years; The Brink was the first casualty. Vinyl‘s cancellation doesn’t exactly inspire confidence in HBO’s programming decisions. If shows aren’t going to be allowed to grow, it’s going to be a rough time.
